It's coz he is a tom 😆 he is letting you know this is his house it happens with all Tom's eventually. I have kept cats 36 years , I look after strays from the railway our the bk of my house , my mum worked with a cat charity fostering cats dogs n once a pig lol and i currentlycare for 4 abandoned cats in my home. All Tom's will spray its part of how they make stuff theirs , it won't matter how much you scrub and change the litter instinct tells them they need to mark their territory, the fact next door has a cat will go a long way towards it. Cats smell is phenomenal your boy will be able to smell next door and he is making sure next door can smell him to 🤷🏻‍♀️
They tell you getting them spayed will help but it won't it will just make him spray less. I actually have a tom called Mr Malfoy a stray from the tracks I am having this problem with atm, he has been chopped but he still pees , he never used to but we recently had a queen dumped on us from round the corner n soon as she came he started marking.
You just have to keep scrubbing till they sort it out and decide to stop 🤷🏻‍♀️ you can try every trick n tip but in the end cats gunna cat n a tom will mark his territory chopped or not, can't stop nature.
As for worms n fleas keep ontop of the meds for them and scrub everything with Dawn dish soap, yes Dawn. It's the best flea killer out there 🤷🏻‍♀️ all the rehabs use it to wash everything because it melts fleas. I import it at £9 per bottle because it works that well. Better then any over the counter flea stuff.

Cats are amazing loving creatures don't let some pee put you off. Think of it as he is just growing up and getting confident and comfortable in his home so he is making it smell like him too as it already smells like you, he is just joining in 😊

Ps I hope Mrs darkness feels better soon 🤞
A once in a while accident of neutered non pungent urine won't make me lose sleep. But right now I'm just anticipating every night finding another puddle.

This mornings accident was probably my fault. I accidentally shut the door to the bathroom when I took a shower and he couldn't get to the litter box. So this morning I'm blaming on me.

Neutering appointment is first thing Tuesday morning.

Aww bless him and you , maybe try putting a catflap in the bathroom door so he can access the litter regardless of whos in there.
I am the same with Mr Malfoy he has taken to peeing up my curtains because luna the female that was dumped on us likes to sit there. It's more then annoying and stinks, but joys of having a cat.
I was talking to my mums old boss yesterday about it and she suggested a feliway defuser, it's a plug in that has special smells in it that help your cat relax so they feel more comfortable n stop peeing everywhere. Idk how well these would work as I haven't tried one, or even if you can get them there but might be worth the shot if u can. I will be ordering one myself today 🤷🏻‍♀️ has to be better then boil washing my curtains every day when he pees.

White vinegar and bicarb will help with the pee smell in the mean time. I mix dawn white vinegar and hot water Scrub then dry n cover in the bicarb powder it will absorb any smell left behind, and kills any fleas while it's there . This works for floors ect but obviously not on my curtains 😆.

He will get used to the smell from the other tom eventually and being neutered will help to reduce this behaviour but it still stinks just as much, (its even more musky imo) and it can still be a daily battle, as I said my boy has been neutered 5 years ago and he still sprays every day because of the female and has done since she came so be prepared just incase.

Wishing little man gl for his upcoming op 🤞🤞🤞 got everything crossed for yous 😊

It's an apartment I can't do that to the door. I just have to get used to not closing it.

And thanks. It will be good for all parties.

I might have had a confirmation here.

My security cameras saw that intact male cat milling around my door and the side of my apartment around 1:25 in the morning. Coincidentally, my cat's latest urination incident was around 1 something, I believe around 1:30.

Correlation? Very likely.

My cat is timid so he urinates.

Now the next question. How does one deter a male cat, especially one that's been around for years. I don't believe most sprays ever work. One of my past jobs was in landscaping and garden sales. We sold tons of animal repellent. I cannot recall a single success story (that didn't involve more extreme measures if you know what I mean).

You will probably have to go out n shoo the other cat yourself, idk of any cat repellent that works . I have seen cats avoiding a garden they have been shooed out of though. Maybe try staying up and opening the door quickly when you see him it may scare him enough to stay away from your door.

He's been around for years. I've scared him before and he just keeps coming back. Like a bad omen.

You have to keep at it although cats aren't stupid if he knows you have a cat he knows you won't hurt him so will probably ignore you.

I will say if the other tom has been there for years he has probably always sprayed your door your cat is now responding because he is old enough not coz he is afraid. This is definitely a territory thing and once your Tom has been neutered it should hopefully stop it because your cat isn't upset he is just marking his territory. If he is neutered he won't want to do that. Its just getting to Tuesday.

Aww bless him in that case I would try scrubbing where the other cat has been , if the other cats smell is less then your boy may settle a little better. Either that or try to keep your boy away from the door on a night time when that other cat comes so he doesn't have to deal with him.
Your vet may have other suggestions too . Just hold on and give your boy lots of love, the safer he feels the better if that other cat upsets him.

That's what's hard , there is no way to separate the only real door from the outside

No spray will work. That aren't staking territory, they are tagging. No matter how many sign posts or previous tags of any nature are there, they are placing a new sign. MINE.

Anecdote. My bud's wife had a garden with numerous beautiful roses, one of which was a blue. Rarer than hens teeth. And it was unthrifty rarely producing a flower. It was finally deduced a local dog was tagging that bush every night. They tried anything and everything. Even had me supply methanethiol, the odor put in natural gas. So he asked me for a stronger deterrent. No prob. Two transformers to the tune of 55,000 volts and less than lethal .005 milliamps. Keep the ground moist around the bush.
He had a good idea of when that dog came through and stayed up to watch.
"I saw this little spark!" The dog chose a new territory and the rose bush flourished.
So you could lay a bug zapper wand or two out......... :smug:

Can you not shut him in a room further away from the door at night? The only other thing I can think of is getting him a cage for night time n then he can only pee in the litter in the cage. Although that seems a bit over the top gor a few days till he is neutered, it still may be your best option.

That's horrible, why would anyone electrocute a dog for peeing , that poor animal.
Usually I like your story's snark but I don't like this one 😞 usually they have an important moral but that's just cruel. Makes me want to electrify your friends toilet n see how he likes it 😏.

Ever got a static shock from grabbing a doorknob or similar? And from that time on you became leery of touching that doorknob?. For what it's worth, I dialed it in to be roughly the equivalent but less powerful. Insufficient current to do anything more than startle the animal. A tiny fraction of what a taser delivers. Or an electric fence. And trivial compared to hot shots used all the time in the cattle slaughtering business.

Yes they bloody sting n don't get me started on cattle prods things are barbaric ! Either way a shock as your peeing, uncalled for. How would you like a shock to your manhood coz you peed where you have been peeing for years.
If they were that bothered they should of potted the rose n moved it. It wouldn't even upset the rose if they did it in the dormant season, but I bet that dog remembers that shock for the rest of its life.
You know I love you Snark, your my brother nothing can change that but that was bad form, static shock or not.

Given that this is an apartment building technically I don't have a lot if options for remodeling the outside. That's why I was hoping a spray might work.

The place is not that big I don't have room to seal off any areas.

Last night the unwelcome visitor did not show up. No full bladder releases, only one pungent marking release.

Another day closer to Tuesday ...

And now he did a floor gift during the day. First time I have seen that.

Sigh

Yesterday/last night was horrible. 4 or 5 (lost count) different instances he "marked" even without that other cat out there. He's gone nuts into overdrive.

Broken record but Tuesday morning is the only thing on my mind.

Okay , time to pivot this thread to be positive. This negative chapter is clearly caused by runaway testosterone levels throwing his hormones all out of whack. His real personality is incredibly sweet and gentle, I'll be it more on the timid side.

So going forward the focus will be on looking ahead to Tuesday's surgery and the clearly positive effect it will have from then on.

It will be a long couple more days waiting. But the new and positive chapter will begin at that time.

What a handsome boy 🥰

Is there any chance there is a female in heat in your block? Could be why he is so determined to mark your home.

There is an intact feral male that's been marking around my apartment for years.
