Cat's poss odor removal. Enzyme cleaners, repeated. Vinegar, baking soda, soak with a mild solution of laundry detergent and let stand for a while.
But for repeat offenders that insist on spraying certain locations, 10 to 20 drops of tea tree oil - the essential oil concentrate added to just enough 70% alcohol to make a pump sprayer work. and zap the offending area. Or paint the solution on. Among other things that oil is a fumigant that claims all rights to territory and makes no friends with an animals acute sense of smell - or eyes so don't get the stuff anywhere near yours.
Tea tree oil also kills mites but also can debilitate or outright kill exoskeletal animals so forget using it around them.

Thanks.
Hopefully I won't have to worry about it soon. The two locations are not really places I can make off limits. Unfortunately it is not that big of a place.

Constantly cleaning up after unruly house cat would definitely piss me off too.
Best Regards, and good luck domesticating your Tom Cat.

Holy moly...I am NOT a cat guy. Better that my friend's cat, though; effin' thing would like out of spite whenever he had company. Like clockwork, between a half & forty five minutes after being there, it'd emerge, remaining just inside the field of view, & toss it up right there in front of us.
I don't know if yours would piss on similar grounds ..did you get a new girlfriend, or something? Got someone stopping by more than usual?

I read all the posts and will say what my experiences are, having had many cats, and my cousin having had 5 at one time. Even if its repeated, i think its good to have cross checks and examples.

1- neutering. This will be resolved when you can. Once this is done, if it continues, it could be something else. The sooner the better, some male cats keep bad habits. What irks me: the squatting. Is the cat licking paws a lot?

2- pain. The squatting. Cats with track infections wont act like regular cats. And they will pee everywhere. Food can be the wrong one. Some cat foods are HORRIBLE for cats. Read very bad and actualy cause urinary tract infections. I used to work in different pet shops, i was able to see a pattern in certain brands.

3- territory. It works with the neutering. This is a rescue cat. Sometimes they are more nervous. Get a black light and check bathtub and bathroom. Beds also.

4- adjusting. But i dont think this is what it is. Because it wasnt doing that when you got it and it would have.

5- mystery.

6- a person i know has a very nervous cat. One time i was excited and scream laughing. I got up but the cat was there and he started running the walls and pooped in a corner.

i hope this helps. When you go to the vet, they can run blood test and urinary test. Once he is neutered, the issues might resolve themselves.

its an elimination trial. You cant get to the root of the issue without crossing things out 😞

good luck

He hasn't done it since my initial posts, hopefully I didn't jinx it.

I am betting his seeing that female, even briefly, gave him a 24ish hour adrenaline rush.

I am starting to feel better so I will be making that neutering appointment in the near future.

I don't give cheap crap food like meow mix. I despise that garbage. It's like giving them McDonald's every day.

This is the company I use:

I have no doubts you dont give crap food. Some, apparently good brands (in canada anyways) arent. I just wanted to make sure its covered. In case someone else is ready this.

I worked for a petstore, big name, that makes its own brand. We had to push that brand. We even had incentives. That brand is actualy one of the WORST. I wasnt following the incentives at all. I didnt work there very long once that was discovered.

Seeing a female can definitely do that. I also had a similar experience. We had a cat that came in contact with a female. We had issues with peeing for a long time after that. It was long ago, and i was a teen. Im pretty sure your situation is different.

All these little factors can cause behavior changes. But its not impossible to rebalance everything with patience and determination.

I think youre a good animal caregiver. If this cat has any chances of getting any chances, its with you.

Well I have taken a turn for the worse. I'm going to have to go on medication for myself. Also the vet I was going to go to is apparently not accepting new patients. Back to the drawing board ...

What litter are you useing? And does the cat have a UTi? I'm really lazy and don't wanna read everytime. 😅 could be stress? Everything your cat goes in the box, praise him so he knows that's a good thing. Pick the poop up and put it in the litter box. Wait an hour or so and put the cat in the box to show it that's the place of business.

Invasion of privacy. I tossed a web search out just to see if there were any new remedies for cats widdling the scenery.
Abouts 18 hours later my pard has received 3 advertisements on FB for cats pee odor removal.
My comp is loaded to the sheer line with anti intrusion progs and poison pills. My browsing is locked down, double secured and monitored. And still, somehow, M. Zuckerturds lobotomy site managed to harvest my web search and unable to crack my security connected my search with my other\s account and blasted her with cat pee related advertisements.

Well looks like the scratcher has to go. It was in one of the areas he peed before and I think the smell is still in there as he was sniffing it for a while and then I caught him trying to do it again. Luckily I was watching.

I can't smell anything at the moment thanks to my illness but given that it's one of those cardboard scratcher things I'm thinking it's not worth it to try and save it
There's no way I can clean every nook and cranny of a bunch of cardboard.

Sucks but it is what it is.

Okay everyone,

I need some help.

My cat has been making tremendous progress since I got him. He already knew what the letterbox was even on day one.

I have had no bathroom related issues until recently. The last couple of days he suddenly started peeing in random other places. Not evey time he goes but it has happened 3 times now. His health is good, he had a vet visit right before I got him. I know certain factors can cause this issue so I want to ask the cat people here if this is a possibility for the cause.

Loud coughing.

My other half has been sick for the last few days and she has a very loud and obnoxious cough that even drives ME insane. She refuses to try and quiet it down because she's stubborn.

Additional factors to rule out
Dirty litter box - I clean it once or twice a day and change it completely evey week.

Type of litter - hasn't changed.

Intact - I am planning to get him neutered but wanted him to settle in first.

Diet- hasn't changed except a couple bad days of not the healthist chicken.

Any insight would be appreciated.
I truly believe it’s marking and nothing more. Some cats are just super picky. I had the same issue with a black cat I rescued last year on Halloween. He was a feral someone threw to a trash can at 8 weeks old. It was hard finding open space to get an appt for neutering to the point I had to find something months away. He was 8 months when I took him to get neutered. I usually take them before the 4 month mark as that’s when they usually start marking. He would spray and pee outside the litter box. Got him fixed he stopped spraying except he was still peeing outside the box not all the time but at least once a day or every other day. Ended up buying two litter robots cuz I was gonna have surgery and no one to help clean after the cats. Best investment ever. No accidents outside the box ever since. At all. I just really think some cats are super picky. I would scoop their boxes 3 times a day. According to him I guess that was still dirty I’m guessing. The litter robot does everything for me and I guess he’s happy now. Fixing will definitely help.

I do scoop at least twice a day, sometimes more. I have a degree of OCD and cleanliness is one of those things I have to have. Much to his delight I am sure. I don't understand how people can be okay with less frequent litterbox cleaning.

Sometimes, the route of less effort, aka throwing away things, is the BEST solution. We all have lives and time is precious. Energy to.

my aunt does two-three times a day and it makes a huge difference. We dont smell ammonia when we enter the house. As soon as a cat goes, we smell it.

Oh I do too but apparently like mentioned he was just a very picky cat. I guess he just wants the box super clean. So ever since I did get the robots no more accidents. Hopefully yours resolved with just neutering. If not then I’d recommend investing in a litter robot.

Good to know about the litter robot.

In this case the behavior matches marking so hopefully the neutering will fix it.

Luckily he's never shown aversion to the litter box. Actually he knew what it was the day he was brought home. Clearly he was a pet before he was abandoned.

Yeah it’s unfortunate rn a ton of cats and dogs are being dumped. At the moment I’m at 10 cats. Hopefully it goes back down to 9 in two months. I rescued another black kitten on Halloween and my mom said she’s probably gonna take it in once I get it all its shots and fixed. Then rn at the moment I’m doing TNR. Dropping off a feral as we speak. So it’s hard for everyone and I can’t take anymore but I’m helping at least with TNR. A lot of people dump cats too though because they don’t get them fixed and causes these behaviors. Just overall irresponsible pet owners.

Well here is a fun development. I just noticed today for the first time that he has worms. Likely a parting gift from being thrown out by the previous "owner" and left to fend for himself outside eating God knows what.

I have been checking for signs of that since day one, so this must be some sort of delayed hatching of eggs or something.

Have to wait a whole week just to get into the vet for that. Then the neutering is going to be a separate appointment apparently. Gotta love cash grabbing at its finest.
