If I can handle a Nile crocodile with success and not being attacked, I do call myself pretty darn lucky. And I've encountered much scarier things in my life then a pesky tarantula. Hnn!

Well now if the "pesky" thing can't do you no harm go play with your H. Mac right now!

Realistically when you lose respect for the animal you are keeping they will make you pay for it at some point or another.

If you have experience with a croc then why even bring up this question?
A tiny tarantula is nothing compared to a croc.
Let us know how it goes!

I'm not losing respect for the animals I am keeping I just like to get alot of input from people on new things I have or am interested in that is it.

Calling it "Pesky" is losing respect for what it could do to you.

Odds are nothing is going to happen. But if it does, sucks you be you.

Your first tarantula is a H mac!!!! I'll be one more experienced keeper telling this is a bad idea. If you want to hold somthing get another tarantula. At least read the bite reports.

I guess I'll just get rid of it cause it poses a serious threat to me and my health. So then what starter tarantulas would be a good one for me but no Grammastola's

Keep the H mac but know what it's capable of. I think talkenlate mentioned respect all ready. What do you want form your tarantula. Something you can handle or somthing that's going to scare you everytime you handle it. A lot of tarantulas are mean and scary when it comes to food but can still be handled. Try L parahybana. They eat everything. I wouldn't recomend getting a tarantula just to make your heart beat faster. Sooner or later......

Well, you can't really predict what a H Mac will do. You can handle an Avic, Brachy, whatever, get really good and comfortable, then pick up a H Mac and get bit right off (or handle 100 H Macs and get bit by your first Avic lol). There isn't really any point in practise since practise wont change the temperment of your T. It may help you to recognize threat posture but since OW T's are always mad and ready to bite it's kind of pointless. So, go ahead and handle her. Hope that it works out, but have some pain killers on hand in case it doesn't. Good luck and try to get a vid.

This set of posts is interesting as it was started by a potential vet. Remember in the future that many different types of animals get problems from their health and behaviour when people buy them and haven't done their species or breed homework first. A good vet will need to educate people not to do this, and that should have applied to the person who sold you the togo as well. The first question is always " what do I want my potential pet for?"

First of all. H. Mac is not a newbie t. If it bites you, you can die, plain and simple, you can die. DOnt be stupid and play around with it and end up in the ER room with ur heat beating insanley quick as u pass out on the floor. But w.e its ur choice to handle it if u want. IF your going to handle it make sure u watch it to see if its angry, if its angry put it back quick.

Let me just say that I own a "cute fuzzy" little H. mac, and it is not something I plan on holding. I've done my homework, and it's not worth the risk to me. Plus, talk about fast! When I got it home, it was in a plastic vial, and when I went to transfer it into another container, I carefully lifted the edge of the lid...and then I couldn't see it. It was then that I realized that it had run out of the opening and up my arm too fast for me to even see. I was lucky to catch it!

Also, I have to respond to your comment about the crocodile. Reptiles can be safely grabbed and restrained with no real danger to them or you. T's can not. There are a couple of ways to pick one up that give you some control, but you have to remember that they are fragile. Like some other people have said, keep the H. mac because it is a beautiful and unique species, but get one of the mellow, new world T's to hold.

After reading this entire thread, I am not exactly sure how to reply. {D

But, I will side with the majority. Probably not a good idea.

But then again, bite reports are there for learning, if your willing to take one for the team. I sure many would prefer to read about your painful experience, than experience it.
