I just bought a WC adult female Avicualria sp. "amazonica". Here is the foto,

The dealer said it's a new species from Amazon in Brazil section. Does anyone know this species b4?
It's about 5inchs LS. Color of this "amazonica" is blue and red hair on abdomen with stripe under the full spectrum light.

Two of my avic favs

Avicularia versicolor is my all time favorite, "if I could only have one avic".
The second pic is Avicularia aurantiaca, or yellow-banded pink toe.

Avicularia avicularia (freshly molted female)... outside last summer. This pic was taken shortly before she shot poo at the camera and started to leap from plant to plant in my garden. No more outdoor photo shoots for her! Second pic is her munching on a superworm. Fuzzyish pic but I like the kind of sidways threat posture shes flashing.

Just got my A avic an appropriate enclosure after a month of living in a small Critter Keeper with >"6 tall walls.

Anyways, finding this damn thing took forever. I went to Ikea, Michaels, Joanns Arts & Crafts, Petsmart, Walmart, and three 99 cent stores until I found something suitable. I figured Ikea would have decent tupperware, but no. Thought Michaels or Joanns would have those acrylic doll display cases, but no. Petsmart was too expensive. Thought Walmart would have atleast something, but no, and the last 99 cent store I went had this, but I had to look through a ton of them to find one that wasnt scratched and scuffed to pieces.

Anyways, this is my first and only (for the time being) T, and it's been a somewhat crappy experience so far. Every dish I've owned so far (3, not including the current) has been insufficient, first 2 didn't hold water, 3rd was too large.

The set up is big plastic jar thingy, about 11" tall, with some Bed-A-Beast, cork bark, some silk vines, and a seashell to drink out of. The A avicularia is about 2.5".

Now that I'm done ranting, I've decided I'm sticking to terrestial species after this, everything is much easier to obtain for them.

Here's a picture of the thing, the only one that came out good enough :

I'll be sure to take some more pictures when my nerves are calmed.

Yeah, mine hated the Critter Keeper, it had no space to move around really.

um, you VERY likely don't need a heat lamp or anything to warm your spiders. If you are comfortable with the temperature in your house, it's VERY likely that most any species of tarantula will be as well.

68-80 F is sufficient (mine are all kept at 75-79)

I live in canada, it's Bloody Freezing for my in my room it's only like 72, and I live in a centry home that while beautiful leaks more then a strainer, the heat lamp is on the top of the cage, if they get cold they climb up if not the can easily stand out of the way I tell you sometimes I want to get into there, it's warmer!

Be careful this doesn't dry out the enclosure, though. From what I hear of the species, humidity is important. Also, lamps really do have a tendency to cook tarantulas and make small enclosures WAY too warm (do you have a thermometer in there? Even one of the cheap stick-on dials from the pet shop should do it). Plus what is the tarantula going to do at night when you turn the light off? :)

If your house is cold enough that you need a heater, you're probably better off getting the smallest under-tank reptile heating pad you can find.

Um, 72 should be fine.

I wish my room was 72F right now it's maybe 65F at most , but my spiders are kept at 75-79 or so (separate room)
