It's a tropical species and from what I've heard and read they are found in the area around Costa rica.

most of my slings are to little to take good pic's of ( plus my camera isn't all that great)
but aphonopelmas are the best!
they remind me of the poke-mon-craze .... got to get them all!!
right now all of mine are below 1", most are 1/4 - 1/2"
a.seemanni
a.euth.. (cali ebony)
a.spp roswell
a.chalcodes 2x
a.anax
a.hentzi
a. spp new mex blond 2x
a. caniceps
a spp flagstaff
a moderatum 2"
now just the rest to go ... how many aphonopelmas are there again?
and since they don't get all that big .... the good stuff is usually in the smaller package.

I just appreciate Aphonopelma's so much :D

1. A.sp.Carlsbad Green F 'Teal' freshly molted

A.texense F 'Marge'

Last but not least A.bicoloratum F 'Sebring'

Look out later, I'll be appreciating even more Aphonopelma spp. Some are on the way, and many are slings that are way too small to show their full brown potential

The first girl is a fantastic chocolate color right after she molts. This is her latest picture long after her last molt. She still looks great to me! I'll be sure to snap more pictures after a fresh molt.

The second tarantula is a problematic species. It is supposedly known as Aphonopelma 'eutylenum' type. It is a problematic species that needs further study from what I have gathered on it. The tarantula pictured was photographed and left in the wild.

The third one is a tarantula that I collected near Alamogordo, New Mexico. I don't know what it is. Anyone? Is it perhaps Aphonopelma anax?

1 Aphonopelma eutylenum
2 Aphonopelma 'eutylenum' type
3 Aphonopelma spp.

Great thread Mendi.

Jay,

Nice A. chalcodes! I sure wish we would have photographed that one we saw out near Phoenix. I really liked the color of it. I can't believe I didn't take at least one picture of it. :wall:

Later,
Gilbert

I love Aphonopelma. I only have A. seemani and A. sp "Carlsbad Green" right now but both are beautiful. I couldn't bring myself to dig up my seemani this past weekend to get a photo but here are a couple of the CG.

I really need to get A. bicoloratum. Then I'd have my three favorite Aphonos.

beautiful blue spider

What is that beautiful blue spider? Is it docile and good for beginners? I don't have a tarantula yet, but I am going to get one? Is that one for sale? I would love to have that one. Does that one live a long time? Is it gentle?

It is an Aphonopelma semanni Common name Costa rican zebra. it is very docile, but very skittish and has kicked it's hairs at me once. It usually runs to its burrow when i get too close to the tank. This one is not for sale sorry. you will most likely see one like this in a pet shop but that one will be very brown in color -USUALLY- when these spiders molt they can be quite different colors brown, black and sometimes blue. from what i have seen the blue seems to be a bit rare. the female of this species can live a long time, depending on care and living conditions. The male of this species most likely wont live long after maturity. To awnsert your question of this spider being gentle....It's not a puppy and it CAN bite you, but so can ANY spider. these spiders are commonly mislabeled in pet shops as "stripe knee" and sell for about 20$. To be sure you have an Aphonop[elma semanni look for orange/ tan colored spinnerettes on the butt.
