Anyone ever experience this?

I count myself very lucky.

It took like three days for my boyfriend to go from, "You're getting HOW many more spiders?" to "You know, it would be really cool to set up a little business breeding and selling tarantulas."

He also gets excited about naming the new additions, which I find adorable.

I’m pretty happy about my fiancé. When we were dating she hated spiders. Then as time went on and we began living together, my love for them rubbed off on her a little. Enough so, in fact, that she bought me my first T this last year. She no longer kills on sight either. She asks if it’s a dangerous specie or if it’s good to keep around to take care of the bugs. I’m pretty proud of her ;)

Just wanted to give a little update since the thread was bumped. My chick doesn’t want me to be overwhelmed with so much maintainence etc because the collection is pretty large as it is. We also go on vacation a lot and it’s sometimes hard to find someone who will watch over them but it usually works out. Oh and she won’t allow any Brazilian wandering spiders. That is, not yet.

A lot of folks new to the hobby ask enclosure questions. I guess there should always be the additional suggestion that if you have a boy/girl friend, make sure you leave their enclosure open to allow, or actually encourage, escape.

Edit: ...and forgo the catch-cup.

The dude I was seeing freaked out when I got my first T. I'm not about to be tied down by someone who doesn't share the same passion for animals of all kinds as me. I'm lucky enough to be a girl and most guys are more tolerant about this kind of hobby but I'd rather find someone who truly loves them like I do.

that isn't even a logical or intelligent argument,,I like the idea of 'aggressive collection' though that's my approach towards it too,,keep doing your thing bro!

I say the same thing to anyone I date and so far have never had an issue. I just say "I get you have a problem with what I'm spending my money on but remember it is my money, not yours so shut your damn mouth and mind your damn business." every time it works.

None of my business really, but this is one of the most non-intrusive hobbies with a small time commitment that keeps you in your home. With t adults you could get away with watering once a week and feeding nice a month. Probably the most vacation-friendly pets available.

Still with her... she loves the collection now. She has become very interested, and even comes to expos with me. Wild how things change!

Do you go on long vacations? Because Ts can go a week easy without any supervision
