Holothele Longpipes. Female. She’s really cute and kind of fiery seeing as it was snowing and I thought she’d come out of shipping all demure and sluggish. But the heat pack clearly did its job! IMG_20241120_011317_Original.jpeg IMG_20241120_015659_Original.jpeg

I'm anticipating two DOA's that hopefully arrive tomorrow due to two FedEx Issues, lucky me.

FedEx issue #1 Recently closed the FedEx Shipping center and turned into a FedEx office in my town where I have picked up from for years. I was completely unaware of this change. Was told in a voicemail that they will hold it at their shipping center until this weekend in St.Louis. Also, tracking updated to show delivering to my home address to tomorrow instead of today. Then it updated to show an issue giving me conflicting info. Tried calling multiple times to go through neverending voice prompts that never lead to a representative and in the end to contact the shipper.

FedEx issue #2 My package went through the worse FedEx hub in the U.S., Memphis, TN. I've seen the inside of that place. If you can imagine what a warehouse would like after a nuclear detonation then you have a good idea

Already contacted the shipper to see if they can help.

So ........ Hopefully if the seller can resolve the issue to just deliver to my home address then I'll receive tomorrow:

1. Female Aphonopelma moderatum - expect DOA mainly from Memphis hub

2. Grammostola grossa sling - expect possibly living but barely after Memphis hub.

Will update with photos if I receive tarantulas and only if they are still living.

Yeah, happened on 11/2. It really sucks for some of the employees that were at that location for years, many of which I was on a first name basis with and will no longer see again. Oh well, such is life....

As far as your shipment, with the species you ordered, the fact they got through Memphis without a delay, the overall mild weather along the route, and hopefully some professional level packing from the seller, I think they'll be fine ;) .

Thank you 🙂
I'm just sitting here really worried right now talking with the seller. My first concern and always will be is for the tarantulas. I don't care about the added cost of re-routing to a new delivery address. It's really frustrating because I had no idea FedEx just made that change recently where I always pick up from. A hard lesson I just learned.

The one older guy, (funny, probably same age as me haha) I always talked to when I went there. He was a great person. He was the one that warned me of the Memphis, TN. hub. I also pulled up photos from inside that warehouse, just horrible

As far as I know, almost all FedEx priority shipments go through the Memphis hub. They're supposedly in the midst of a $1B renovation project there which is supposed to be completed in 2025, so maybe that'll help. I've had shipments regularly delayed when they make it to Memphis but don't get on the outbound flight in the same night, so I've been in your shoes. Generally speaking, as long as the shipment is packed well the T's will be OK with an extra day in transit. I've only ever had 1 tiny sling DOA after probably 7 or 8 delayed shipments, some of which were delayed over a weekend.

Hope things work out for your new ones!
