Yeah, happened on 11/2. It really sucks for some of the employees that were at that location for years, many of which I was on a first name basis with and will no longer see again. Oh well, such is life....I'm anticipating two DOA's that hopefully arrive tomorrow due to two FedEx Issues, lucky me.
FedEx issue #1 Recently closed the FedEx Shipping center and turned into a FedEx office in my town where I have picked up from for years. I was completely unaware of this change. Was told in a voicemail that they will hold it at their shipping center until this weekend in St.Louis. Also, tracking updated to show delivering to my home address to tomorrow instead of today. Then it updated to show an issue giving me conflicting info. Tried calling multiple times to go through neverending voice prompts that never lead to a representative and in the end to contact the shipper.
FedEx issue #2 My package went through the worse FedEx hub in the U.S., Memphis, TN. I've seen the inside of that place. If you can imagine what a warehouse would like after a nuclear detonation then you have a good idea
Already contacted the shipper to see if they can help.
So ........ Hopefully if the seller can resolve the issue to just deliver to my home address then I'll receive tomorrow:
1. Female Aphonopelma moderatum - expect DOA mainly from Memphis hub
2. Grammostola grossa sling - expect possibly living but barely after Memphis hub.
Will update with photos if I receive tarantulas and only if they are still living.
Thank youYeah, happened on 11/2. It really sucks for some of the employees that were at that location for years, many of which I was on a first name basis with and will no longer see again. Oh well, such is life....
As far as your shipment, with the species you ordered, the fact they got through Memphis without a delay, the overall mild weather along the route, and hopefully some professional level packing from the seller, I think they'll be fine .
As far as I know, almost all FedEx priority shipments go through the Memphis hub. They're supposedly in the midst of a $1B renovation project there which is supposed to be completed in 2025, so maybe that'll help. I've had shipments regularly delayed when they make it to Memphis but don't get on the outbound flight in the same night, so I've been in your shoes. Generally speaking, as long as the shipment is packed well the T's will be OK with an extra day in transit. I've only ever had 1 tiny sling DOA after probably 7 or 8 delayed shipments, some of which were delayed over a weekend.Thank you
I'm just sitting here really worried right now talking with the seller. My first concern and always will be is for the tarantulas. I don't care about the added cost of re-routing to a new delivery address. It's really frustrating because I had no idea FedEx just made that change recently where I always pick up from. A hard lesson I just learned.
The one older guy, (funny, probably same age as me haha) I always talked to when I went there. He was a great person. He was the one that warned me of the Memphis, TN. hub. I also pulled up photos from inside that warehouse, just horrible

Hope things work out for your new ones!
They're awesome! Glad they are good, and even made it through a molt in transit! I know it's coincidence, but it sure seems like the process of being packed up and shipped triggers molting in slings - I've received quite a few that molted on the way, the vast majority without issue. This is very good news thank you.
Finally received my package a little after 2:00pm central time. Last night I was worried as temperatures were in the 30F's. Today I've been sweating bullets as morning temps were very cold and the package being on the truck for more time that I want.
Both tarantulas not only survived their ordeal but are highly active with no signs of dehydration. Seller did an outstanding packing job not just with the box but more importantly the vial for the G. grossa and the container for the confirmed female A. moderatum. The moderatum is absolutely beautiful. She kicked some UrS barely while trying gently to have her come out of the tissue but who can blame her. No threat pose or biting whatsoever or bolting.

I had to remove the A. moderatum as I had to put more substrate in. I underestimated that which I don't know why. The photo you see of it on the side of enclosure is before I added more sub. I also offered her a giant mealworm if she wants it.
The G. grossa I'll wait to feed as it molted in transit.
Now I need a few more tarantulas to fill the rest of my shelf.
