Having multiple reptiles, and now invertebrates, that require feeders I started looking into starting my own Dubia colony in October. I quickly learned Dubia.com/dubiaroaches.com (either takes you to the same website/company) was the only place that had any adult Dubia females available. Their prices were excellent for most all of their items, although a little high for adult females. That said, there seems to always be some sort of 15% off coupon available which offsets this, and the lower price of other feeders compared to other places (mealworms, and Black Soldier Fly larvae) also offset the slightly higher cost for adult females. I appreciate the reliable availability, which I found lacked in other places. Their shipping delays were relayed to customers with a handy "Updates" page and they were quick to respond to communication prior to my 1st order shipping. They offered a generous LAG for the insects, even temporarily suspending their temperature requirements. Shipping was a reasonable flat rate.

The first order all of my bugs arrived alive and healthy, and they included a few extra to account for any losses. My adult female Dubia had some nymphs in the cup which were born on the way. I lost two adult males a day later and was quickly offered credit, which I declined but appreciated; I was more interested in inquiring what to expect. I have had no other losses a month later, and the 25F and 4 remaining males are doing excellently. I have seen new nymphs in that timeframe, and I today observed a female with her oothaca out so they are beginning to reproduce for me. I ordered more adults this week to get my colony producing the numbers I needed faster, an additional 10F and 5M, plus 200 mealworms and some BSFL. This time there were no delays in shipping and they arrived in two days on a Saturday (earlier than the projected Monday date), all alive and active. Though they tetris everything in nice small boxes to keep them safe my mealworm cup spilled, but when I counted there was an extra 100 more than what I paid for, so no loss at all plus 2 extra female dubias.

The company also gives back to the community via rewards to their customers, employee bonuses, and charitable donations. I am very pleased and will continue to use them versus my local reptile chain store.

Pros
  • Good variety of different feeder insects. Shipping was cheap but it can take like three days to get to your house depending on where you live. Prices were pretty good, but then again I haven't been to every single online feeder store to compare prices.
Cons
  • They could probably do something to pack the roaches better during the summer and winter months and offer faster shipping through maybe FedEx or UPS. They also didn't have any crickets. I mean they have them for sale, but they ran out. I don't know how often this happens.
I ordered 50 1/4" Dubia roaches to feed my various scorpions (Leiurus and Androctonus species, babies, sub-adults, and adults). Package arrives by United States Postal Service in three days (Towanda, Kansas to Sloan, Iowa). The shipping is pretty slow since I only live about five hours away. They gave me a pretty large over count to compensate for the dead roaches. A lot of them arrived dead. They also gave me a tiny container of roach chow. Packaging was minimal, just a small USPS box inside a medium USPS box with a small air bag. I'm not sure if they add ice packs during the summer or heat packs during the winter. All in all, I guess I would order from them again. They have a bunch of other feeder insects that I wouldn't mind checking out. Just don't order if it's too hot or too cold outside. Actually I'm not so sure if it's ok to order if it's a little hot or just a little cold outside as the packaging is pretty poor. I haven't dealt with customer service so I can't comment on that. 4/5 or 8/10.
