Whoever says they're just boring big brown spiders hasn't kept one and probs never seen one outside of pics. The pink hairs are stunning and this is my new fav invert.
They're most vibrant after a molt, they slowly become less vibrant with time until the next molt. But there's always a shade of pink if it's a T. blondi, which is one reason why I prefer them to T stirmi.
This gal is my fav invert right now, she's not defensive at all and can be handled although I don't like doing that often and most certainly not near a molt.
Any idea how females of the species live?? I'm hoping to get 20 years with this one. She's about a year old at this point.
Blondi has clear pink hairs freshly molted, with a dark body but sadly the pink fades significantly with time while the body color becomes a brighter shade of brown and they're mostly brown near the next molt.

I’m finding that’s around max or 25, mine was a T stirmi adult I lost ages ago I had a long thread me trying to save it seller sold me a sick one and knew it. I have to get another eventually not sure when might have to wait until I move out . Here’s an old thread but you’d almost have to make a. New one with a max age survey then an average one.
I want to have all Theraphosa species and want to know how old they "really" get. I have now read many times that T stirmi lives only 12 years. I had one T. blondi but hooked out around 2years and I gave him away. And I had a T apophysis for 7 years but unfortunately sold her, cause a breeder...
