At an expo. Guy took it on trade and said it was a mystery baboon lol. I offered 20 and he took it. It's about 2 inches dls. I thought H mac too but wanted better opinions thanks. Legs aren't fluffy enough for an S cal I don't think and it's pretty darkish brown like and H Mac.
@K M P "Mystery baboon" lmao. H. maculata and S. calceatum look incredibly similar at that size, especially in color, but based on the abdominal patterning I'm leaning towards H. mac as well. They have much busier patterning/dappling on the sides of their abdomens where S. calceatum does not. If you got a better lit/clearer image it'd be much easier to tell.
I'll try to eventually sorry I know it's not great. I'll watch and see how it develops and check more pics of S cal at that size...I have a few but they're like 1/2 slings so hard to compare. Thanks.
As stated above, somewhat difficult to be precise at this stage. However, I’m about 75% on the H. mac side. The eyes of the “face” on S. cal are usually separated by a pretty defined line on the opisthosoma.
Hard to tell from this picture, but the sort of pads on the front legs make me think S. calceatum. The feet of an H. maculata tend to be more narrow leading directly to the hook on the bottom of the foot, especially on leg 2, however this picture sort of shows the expanded foot pads that are characteristic of S. calceatum. As always, wait until it grows to confirm, or look at it under a better light with pictures of both species, and use your best judgement.
