I also live in a country with strict T laws. That didn't stop me but I risk actual jail time and a hefty fine for my small collection. Not sure what the penalties are in NZ. Might be worth it if it's just a reasonable fine.
Makes you wonder... Don't they research anything before they start selling a new kind of pet? At least they're feeding it crickets and not carrots.

My adult female Monocentropus balfouri needed deeper substrate. She was in a nice enough enclosure, but the thin layer of coco fiber she was on made it impossible for her to burrow. She was clearly upset and that made me uncomfortable. I made her a new home, bigger, plenty of anchoring points...
