So my little G aureostriata, whom I affectionately call ChacoTaco, laid down a molt mat and made herself comfortable the other night. In the morning as I was leaving for work I saw her flipped (is it too much to ask to wait till I get home?). I left a 1¾" baby and came home to a 2½" toddler! She...
Probiotics is an idea, but how do we know whether the flora that's good for us would be good for a T? I'd be hesitant to introduce it to my spider without knowing the result. I guess if there's nothing left to try, I'd probably do it. After all, who would think of super-gluing a tarantula back...
Okay, first, you don't want to know what popped up when I googled "tarantula yeast mouth infection." Seriously, you just don't. It will be a long time recovering for me.
After a few meandering links I found a few hints that the white goo itself may be a result of a bacterial infection from...
The white goo makes me certain it's likely yeast. I'm not sure if there's anything you can do beyond keeping things as clean as possible and offering plenty of clean water. I'm glad she's behaving better, as that's a good sign that she's feeling better. I'll do some digging and see if there's...
I don't have any experience with meal worms (those are those hard-shelled bitey alien looking things, right?). Wax worms, I don't know how you should keep them, but I bought some for a sick T that hard a really hard time catching other prey, thinking, of course that they wouldn't last long, and...
I don't want to scare you, but I would look closely to see if nematodes or yeast are a possibility. It's not often I get to say this, but I really do hope it's poop in its mouth.
Maybe yours just has OCD. Mine's been through a bit of trauma, so she doesn't seems to like the act of moving, much less digging or anything that would require effort. I do think it's cute, though, how when she eats her little spinnerets wag like a puppy's tail in slow-mo. {D
So far she's just stopped and is sitting up against the corner. Who knows what's going on in her little brain. I guess she'll molt if she's ready to molt, and she'll sit in the corner till she's ready to not sit in the corner.
Hmmmm. Guess I'll make sure I have liquid bandage/superglue and such. I hope she gets to it. I don't want to be sleeping through it and not be able to help her if I need to. :(
So, my A. seemanni was a rescue - very malnourished and dehydrated. In the last few moths she's re-hydrated pretty good and has eaten a few wax worms to bulk up a little bit. She has never webbed though, no even a little bit. When I got her there was no webbing in her tank, either. I attributed...
Occasionally I'll get an outburst of baby crix in the more humid tank, but unless it's bugging the spider I don't worry about it. Nature takes its course and they all seem to die pretty soon on their own. In fact, I've really only had three problems come up. 1, a really skittish T seemed to be...
"Waste" is subjective. If you "dispose" of them there will certainly be something else that ends up devouring them. You could bury them and they'd be eaten by worms. Flush them, eaten by bacteria or the fabled sewer-gators. Toss them in the neighbor's yard, a treat for the barking rat you never...
