If that's plastic, test how strong it is with plyers...as big t's are little plyers... :p
LOL Yes Always a good Idea to test it :)

As far as that plastic egg crate goes it held up to some strong/pissed off patriot crab claws/pincer's pretty well. Not sure if T's are stronger than crabs ? I would imagine their fangs are sharper than pincer's. :)

See, I never got around to figuring out the details of that myself. General concept is that the only opening would be on the bottom - you could even set it on a paper plate if you wanted to - so, you'd lift the little tank and reach up to do maintenance. Water dish could sit on the bottom and would be easy to refill - crickets get tossed up and in. Like I said - an interesting experiment

But, as you could see - I'm already leaning toward the hinged top instead.

Hmm, the paper plate thing doesn't seem like a bad idea

Does it look really leggy to anyone else?
Im just going to blurt it out. Thats looks like a pokie from my house!!!

To the OP (original poster) Can you get us a good photo of the spider?

Edit: Looking closer i can see what looks to be pink on the end of L1. I think i see a hooks on the front legs too.

The way the legs are placed gives it the illusion that it has huge legs, The legs are lined up just right. {D

I know it sounds noobish.. but MM and MF?
Mature Male and Mature Female. People are wondering if it is a MM because of how leggy it is. Males are usually much more leggy compared to the females. If you could provide us with better pictures (closer), we can atleast identify if it is a MM or not. Quality ventral shots will allow us to sex the spider for you.

Thanks for the ID :)
Here are a few Photos, I took a pic of whole tank for size reference.
The only problem is the part we want to see is hiding/curled up:wall:
He does have Spurs on his Pedipalps :(

I would say that is a M(ature)M(ale), but a beautiful enclosure! It might not make any tube webs, but it will be on the go pretty constantly and you will get to see him alot. There is no way to tell how long he has been mature, or how long he will live, but our MM A. avicularia was easily the 'sweetest' tarantula we have owned so far. Enjoy him while you have him, or you can try and find him a date. There is a subforum for that if you scroll down on the main page.

Dont feed him and he will last longer. Maybe 1 adult cricket a month. Not the most fun but he will last way longer. ;)

Thanks for the info :) Ill remember that.
he has 1 medium sized cricket in there he has no desire to touch.:(
Just bought him too, oh well... Its a learning experience not to buy unless you know their sex & age.
I hope to provide him a good retirement home ;)
Thanks again

personally I stick with females.. due to they last longer.. I hate getting attached to something and see it pass on in a short time
Agreed, I am hoping to acquire a female.:worship:

I have heard they tolerate company?
I am unsure if to add the female to the same aquarium or keep them separate.

Avics are not communal. They will eat each other. But if you get a good size female they will breed until she decides dinner is better than sex. {D
