Why do people hate cricket chirping?

I see so many people complaining about their "noise" and using that as a con to keeping them as feeders- but I always liked the sound. It is really not that LOUD (imo) and it sounds kind of pretty. I used to keep them in jars as a kid and listen to their chirps and sleep to their music.

The constant chirping is annoying. Too loud for household enjoyment. They belong outdoors.

I feed off any males first. The noise doesn't bother me but my SO hates the sound of crickets in the middle of the night.

My wife hates the chirping, I could care less. We got banded crickets once which have a different chirp than the crickets we normally got and my wife got excited that it might be her Amazon milky tree frog calling. When she found out it was just the different crickets, she decided she didn't like the sound o_O I don't get it either.

Most of them go chirp chirp chirp which is tolerable. Then there is always this one that goes SCREEEEEE. That one always goes into the cages first.

Yeah it probably depend on the person. I think some have sensitivity to certain sounds. There are some repetitive sounds that I don't prefer. Cicadas get annoying... Crickets don't bother me but I kept mine in my office and i couldn't turn them off for conference calls and such so that got old. First World problems, huh?

If you want a free 24/7 non-stop alarm clock then there's nothing wrong with it. :troll:

Honestly it depends on how annoyed a person get with it. Usually one escapee is not a problem at all as I had one or two escape in the past and the noise wasn't too bad as it blended in with the noise outside with the field crickets. The problem as to when people say it becomes irritating is when a a batch of them escape. Usually it sounds like an opera of crickets but beside your ear when you sleep. There are instances of crickets being a nuisance such as a batch escaped and are living within the walls of someone's home.

But yea, one or two escapees in the long run isn't too bad unless a whole lot of them escape in a persons home.

The only time I find the chirping annoying is when my pacman frog doesn't eat all of them and two or three keep chirping right next to me when I'm trying to sleep. The ones back in the enclosure are a nice white noise throughout the day and night lol.

It also counts what species you are dealing with, chirping sounds of Gryllus assimilis or Acheta domesticus, are quite moderate compared to the hammering of G. bimaculatus males (especially when they are fighting).

I'm Autistic and have sensory issues.

Crickets chirping in a confined space is up there with dogs barking and smoke detectors in "sounds that will make me level Wiltshire"

In general, repetitive noises drive me mad, and I already hear a racket at night from outside and don't need to add to it.

I find it relaxing to go to sleep too...but I guess some people like whale noises to sleep to and I find that annoying.

I have anxiety and certain noises drive me absolutely bonkers. I cannot with the horny male crickets. They get fed to my Ts first.

I can tolerate them in the bin in a closet. If one male escapes I usually end up on a cricket hunt at 3am.

My crickets live in my bedroom with me. Mostly I don't mind them. Sometimes it can be nice. But then every once in a while a mature male escapes and somehow survives the cats and house centipedes and random spiders and all I hear is CEASELESS SCREAMING for a month or two.
