Why do people hate cricket chirping?

My grandson just mentioned today that "You know Grandpa, the crickets make me sleep better!".

To each their own. The sound of the feeders don't bother me, the ones living in my basement? They piss me off and out come the sticky boards. ;) That usually takes care of the crickets and the occasional mouse. And a shrew once. :embarrassed:

It's annoying... I now get just enough to feed everyone and if there's any extras, I throw it in with the Sicarius and it doesn't last more than 30 seconds...

I love the sound of their chirping most of the time. I think they're pretty
cute and fun to watch too. I enjoy caring for them in the short time before their demise 🙂

...unless you live in a place where cockroaches are illegal and your animals refuse to take mealworms.
Mine are good for meal worms. I have the crickets just to mix things up. I do not feed them much. I have isopods too. I don't like using those too much since i like them but they do seem to be good feeders for my small t's that do not seem to like prekilled anymore.

Its definitely the adult males that are just too loud and a chirp to a longer drawn pause is fine but when it is a continuous noise its like nails on chalkboard.

The only animal noise I am not crazy about is a screaming parrot! I love any insect or frog sound. So far!

Continuous noises are just annoying, dogs barking, cats meowing, insects screeing
Just keep something more pleasant closer to you. I love the sounds of Mossy Frogs and several of the PDF songs and trills. Then let the crickets sing in the background! :smirk:

Hundreds of crickets chirping is like white noise and I can ignore it. One cricket hiding in my closet at 3:00 am bragging to all his friends that he made a successful escape drives me nuts. I've switched to banded crickets and while I prefer them to house crickets in pretty much every way there is one thing that is both a positive and a negative depending on where said crickets are residing. If they are in their tubs in my reptile room I love the fact that they are much hardier and live longer than house crickets but when they are loose and hiding under my freezer in my kitchen I wish they would just die already. I don't think I ever had a house cricket live more than 2 days outside its cage but I've had bandeds go on chirping for a week.

I'm with you. I love the sound of crickets. It takes me back to summer camping in the hills of eastern Kentucky when I was a kid. My great uncle had a large pay lake and shut it down for a weekend for a family reunion. He had lots of cabins and an old school bus converted to a dorm - that's where I stayed! Ahhhh! A peaceful time for sure!
