Who molted today?

My juvenile GBB molted last night after sealing herself in a burrow for a month. My new pink toe sling also molted a couple days ago, but I haven't had a chance to post about it until now.

So, it's two down and two to go.

I'll post pictures of both when my GBB emerges from her burrow. She just molted last night, so it may be a few days before she emerges from her fortress. The avic is just so cute. She's almost ready for food - her fangs are black and it's been six days - and I intend to offer her a cricket or two tomorrow.

This is weird. I tried to reply to this post and somehow it created two separate posts - the quote in one and my reply in another.

Anyways, this was my reply:

I was just debating picking up an H. Chilensis. They are such beautiful little spiders. Everything I've learned about them makes me think they are an awesome species that would be delightful to keep. I held back because I came to a realization that the four girls I have are plenty for now. I just started this in November, and I'm at almost one new spider a month since then. Since my last acquisition is a fairly rare Avic sling, I really want to focus on her care and get her through at least one molt before I get any more Ts.

Still, I really want a dwarf and H. Chilensis is high on my list, but it's pricey where I am. I was weighing it along with a D. Pentaloris female that was almost half the price. I guess I'll see what's available in the Fall, when I plan to acquire another one or two, lol.

Clearly not a great picture, but my dark burrow lurker has changed his identity. (H.gigas) No good pictures of them as they retreated deep far back but could see the exo! Will have to leave it for now until he spring cleans. 1000006762.jpg

Sorry I missed this, I have been off for a few days my son damaged a ligament on top of his foot so had my hands full .

Chili are great spider my 2 were £60 each as unsexed slings but I wanted them so much I couldn't resist. They are inquisitive, great eaters, and super cute n tiny but take forever to grow this moult took 9 months n was only 1/2 inch dls 😆 make chalcodes look fast 😂. Imo worth it though they are so adorable it makes up for the slow growing.

Ah I wouldn't worry bout that, in my first year I hit 30 t's, second was 70 now 4 n a bit years in I sit at 110 n only stopped because I ran out of room 😂. I plan on converting my living room into the spood room soon though n it's huge so I will be able to get more again 😁.
Definitely an addictive hobby but your in good company 😉😊.

Davus Pentaloris, called Shakey. She moulted yesterday and I got a quick picture as she’s very shy. She lost a spinnaret in her last moult as she was 12 hours new to me, driven home from a show and got up mid moult to wander around and things were difficult. She has managed really well after a weird start with silk clumping and sticking to her bottom and webbing that started out very wobbly. but looks like i’ll be waiting to see if she can repair it next time.

I don’t have any pictures because it’s hiding away right now but came home from work to a freshly moulted H. Pulchripes sling, it’s pushing maybe 1.5” now, hard to tell because I haven’t got a good look at it yet.
I don’t know if this counts either but my P. Victori came in the mail about two weeks off a moult

Third moult with me, my Bumba Horrida. I do like the dramatic keel over which always takes a second glance. It really struck an I am stricken pose at the start

Came home yesterday to my female LP hugging some exuvia in her hide 😎
You can see the old fangs in the back right of the hide. She might be pushing 8” now
Also, my H. Pulchripes sling came out for the first time post moult so here she (hopefully) is!

Bad news, Luna, my Aphonopelma moderatum female molted - she was paired last July, so no sac this time.

Good news is that the MM is still kicking after all this time, so I'll try pairing them again in a few weeks!

I posted about my GBB and brand new Avic. Jurensis M2 molting a few days ago, but there have been other developments. I don't know if I mentioned that my H. Pulchripes hooked out and became a cruel and wicked creature that I donated to someone's breeding project. That was molt number three.

The fourth molt in two weeks happened a few days ago, but I didn't have the time to post about it here until now. It's my lovely G. Pulchra, Noche. She's a juvenile, and though I've only seen a couple quick glimpses of her with a flashlight, she appears to have had a good size increase and is about 3" now. She's my sweetheart - such a gentle girl and a real treasure. She was in premolt for three months, fasting as her abdomen swelled. I kept thinking she would molt any day, but it took all winter! I'm really excited to see her when she's ready to come out.

She is still tucked away in her burrow, recovering from her ordeal. She's pushed the molt out partially, but I can't remove it without disturbing her. I moved her water dish so it's sitting right by the main entrance to her hide just to give her a little help. It's hard to be so helpless when T's molt. We have to trust them to do what millions of years of evolution has perfected. Their instincts take over, and they get it right 99% of the time. Even with my Noche successfully molted, I still worry about her coming out and having a significant personality change, like Dia, who is now very shy and reclusive.

Regarding the others who just molted, Dia is noticeable bigger, and her colors are stunning. I love that her legs are starting to thicken up as she approaches maturity. Juvie GBB's often had have a lanky phase, and I like a beefy T. The problem is, I don't ever see her these days. She's been in hiding since she emerged from her molting burrow. She eats fine, but doesn't leave the area of her original burrow, which is all blocked off with web curtains. I hope she will gain more confidence soon so I can see her post-molt colors in the light of day.

Then there's little Nin~a. Think Neen-ya. I don't know how to generate the n with a ~ over it. She's my avic sling who molted the day after I picked her up from my breeder. I tranferred her from a vial into the Tarantula Cribs Small Treehouse with a canopy roof. She loves it and will likely be there for at least a year or two, until she's ready for her adult enclosure. Of course, it could hook out
