I'm able to pick one of the following species as a freebie but not sure which one to pick.
  • A. Chalcodes
  • A. Geniculata
  • C. sp Hati Hati
  • H. Himalayana
  • N. Incei Gold Form
  • P. Cancerides
  • N. Tripepii
I was leaning towards the A. chalcodes but read they're very slow growers.

If you've never had a geniculata, then I'd second that vote- they are LOADED with character, & are always out & about, BUT ...
A hati hati fell in my lap not that long ago (a "freebie," which I didn't choose, nor did I want...I have mixed feelings about "freebies"), & I've got to say, I kinda dig the change of pace. It's an interesting spider...but if you've never had a geniculata, then get the geniculata ..in my opinion

I love aphonoplema species so I would go with the chalcodes, personally - however as others mentioned, the geniculata is also really fun to have, and mine had grown rather quickly when I had one in the past. Everyone should have a geniculata at least one.

I'd take the N. incei in a heartbeat, but I'm pretty sure cult genic is gonna swarm this thread completely any minute now 🤣

Hahaha, but of course @ladyratri!
First, if you aren’t experienced with spicy, old worlds, or are not ready for lightening speeds, spiders that stand their ground and medically significant venom, just knock those off your list.
Now, down to business..there are none finer than the genic! Royalty among tarantulas. Gorgeous, display tanks with big personality. My ambassador to non-spider folk who turn “Eww”, into “that’s kinda cool” and “that’s the prettiest spider I’ve ever seen and wow, I don’t believe I just said that”.
My main man…Prince Sacha!

But, chalcodes are nice, too.

What do you currently have?

Can’t go wrong with a Nhandu tripeii

  • G. Pulchra
  • B. Hamorii
  • C. Darlingi
  • P. Metallica
My order includes Davus sp Panama, H. Devamatha and C. Natanicharum.
Yeah I recommend a Nhandu tripeii. Big giant T, beautiful colour, fast growth rate, great feeding response and a spicy personality

A. genic or N. tripepii
I like Aphonopelma sp. but they do tend to be very chill, slow growers, mines are hiding most of the time and don't eat so much either
Nhandus and genics are your go to for spice, character and amazing colorations too

You're young so you can afford to raise an Aphonopelma from a sling lol

tripeppii hands down....its a fantastic species, and rarer and more valuable than the others IMO......second would be the genic....third in line would be the incei....but the Phormic is a solid pick, too.....you got lots of nice choices.

If there was a tarantula you could train, it may be the Geniculata. There is nothing it won't do for food. Serious gluttony 🤣

That's super personal. I'd pick whatever appeals the most. N. Incei are super fun, and it's easy to find space for a dwarf species. I just recently got my first A geniculata due to their cult following on the boards here (and $5 price tag). We shall see if it lives up to the hype. I really enjoy my phormictopus as well, although they can be a bit spicy when they get larger. Heard good things about Nhandu, don't own any myself, definitely would pick one up if the opportunity arose.
