I'm able to pick one of the following species as a freebie but not sure which one to pick.
  • A. Chalcodes
  • A. Geniculata
  • C. sp Hati Hati
  • H. Himalayana
  • N. Incei Gold Form
  • P. Cancerides
  • N. Tripepii
I was leaning towards the A. chalcodes but read they're very slow growers.
A. geniculata, A. chalcodes and N. incei are great choices. Out of those three A. geniculata wins my pick. Just understand they have a strong prey drive. Anything you stick in the enclosure close to it will be perceived as food including fingers.

They also get big. I have a mature male that exceeds 8 inches dls. As long as you are comfortable with large tarantulas then a genic will always be my first choice.

I had fewer freebie options, so I opted for an S. calceatum sling. She grew up to be a pretty girl, but I think she's bipolar.

N Incei. I have two olives and its worth it for the webbing, stunning. Tunnels and everything. A Gen are easy to find. My two Incei’s are always out and about somewhere making web or looking for dinner.

I am very much on team genic - all hail! A must-have spider if you haven't experienced one thus far.

However, given the ready availability (and therefore relative cheapness) of the geniculata, I'd be quite tempted by the Nhandu or Phormictopus instead of this occasion. I actually prefer the incei olive form to the gold, so I'd pass on that option, but everyone I've heard from enjoys their experience with that little character.

Cancerides seems underrated to me. Big, bold, fast-growing, ravenous, subtly interesting colouration and a rather spicy attitude. I'd probably plump for that.

What an interesting choice - let us know what you go for!

Always the smart choice - came back to the thread to see what the final decision was.
