No idea; if your wanting an ID, your going to need better pictures, if possible. Try to get the eye pattern, that would be most helpful. Thanks! :)

I wish I had more pictures. This is from one of my friends. He just took this with a camera phone and sent it to me.

Hmm.. well, did he remember any details about the spider? Markings, coloration, size, etc? That might be helpful.

Bummer.. Well, the best advice I can give you is to just search the internet for something that looks similar to the spider in the picture. It looks like a possible "Wolf Spider", not sure on a species tho. It could also just be a "Southern House Spider" which can get large in size as well. I can't tell ya much more without better pictures, I'm sorry! Good Luck! :)

Here is a website with Spiders in the Texas area;

Here is another picture. It looks to be quite large. The description, that my friend gave me, of the eye pattern is "(Top to bottom) 2 small eyes, then 2 large eyes, 2 more large eyes, and then 2 small eyes".

Soo, the eye pattern has 3 rows with (top to bottom) 2 small eyes in the first row followed by 2 small eyes and 2 big eyes in the second row ending with 2 small eyes in the third row?? Sorry, if that was confusing, lol.

Send this link to your friend, please. It shows all "Spider Eye Arrangements"; if possible, have him/her pick the closest match to the spider. Also, I need detail on the colors/patterns (if any).. another BIG tip-off for an ID would be ANY details on the spider's underside (ventral).

Looks definitely to be a wolf spider... as for a specific ID, not sure, but looks kinda like Hogna helluo?

Maybe it was terrible to throw out specifics like that, but it sure looks like something from the Lycosidae family...
Honestly, the first picture gave me the same idea, but without something a little more detailed, its all speculation.

I believe he said it was 4 rows of 2 eyes each. Like:

oo <---Small
00 <---Large
00 <---Large
oo <---Small

Hahahah! It took me a minute to figure out a way to describe the pattern. But that's what he described to me.

:? Your friend's description doesn't fit any of the larger spiders eye arrangement patterns.. 95% chance that spider cannot climb smooth surfaces so tell him to pop open that lid and either snap a better picture or examine it then report back to you, lol. I am going to send you a few websites via message to show your friend to compare his spider. We'll figure it out, no worries! Haha :p
