Newbies and experienced keepers alike, I'm here to ask: Which species is your favorite of all time? Whether that means your favorite to handle, your favorite display species, or just the most rewarding T you've ever kept.

I'm a fairly experienced herp keeper and I've just gotten back into Ts. I'm looking around for some interesting stuff to add to the collection and I would like some input! I'm not intimidated by lots of research about husbandry, nor by a non-handleable species. I just want to know, what's your favorite?

Other of my faves are: Nhandu tripeii, Nhandu carapoensis, LP, P irmina

I like different species for different reasons, and my favourites change over time. At the moment, I am enjoying my little Aphonopelma seemanni, which was a species I had overlooked for a long time as a boring, beginner spider. It's a very busy little bulldozer with a great appetite and very pretty too. I've also recently bought a Pterinochilus murinus, which is growing like a weed and building a web palace.

Long time favourite is my big female Lasiodora parahybana, because she is massive and beautiful, nearly always on display, eats anything and is really impressive to people who visit and want to see the spiders.

I give this to the ultimate Hobby Icon : Brachypelma hamorii. Beautiful, hardy, long-lived and generally mild-tempered. This spider opened the door to many others at a time when only it and a few select others were starting to pop up in pet stores. We're talking in the mid-60s at the earliest. Sorry A. geniculata, you are also a stunner and a glutton, but you don't quite have the recognizability of B. hamorii.

Hail the classic Red-knee Tarantula ! :D

Lasiodora parahybana common , affordable, large. Although it’s hard to pick a favorite.
Pamphobetus sp. Platyomma is also one of favorites.

Phormictopus Atrichomatus. Just amazing to look at and currently getting bigger. This photo was when I got her.

Closely followed by my GBB, A Geniculata, and Davus Pentaloris. I have a really cute T Verdezi sling.

Today, its my b emilias!!!

yesterday, my d pentalorises.

tomorrow, maybe my g pulchripes af female thats over 4 inches. If she decides to leave her burrow.

everyday my b hamoriis. When i am not hating on them for flicking hairs because they are still little spicy slings. But with every molt, the fire is bolder.

sweet spot: my nhandu color. Shes just so funky. But the hairs on it… sigh.

my obts will be my first and last. Although i love them, i prefer working around tarantulas that pose less of a risk.

i don’t regret having them. I have learned so much. But tons of cool tarantulas that are less medicialy significant. New tarantulas popping every now and then too.

if i want a challenge, i will get an avic.

Not a species, but a genus.

Very pretty what are they like to keep? They more like avic in temperament and just sit about? Or are they more active? Had my eye on this genus for a while but not took the plunge for the pure fact they are arboreal and arboreal tent to be shy.

Nothing like an Avicularia lol. They're way more reactive with different husbandry requirements. As far as visibility goes, IMHO and IME, that will always be dependent on the keeper providing the right environment for the species to thrive, not just survive. The majority of my collection are labeled as "pet holes" by the community consensus, yet I tend to see them out at night more times than I don't and will see a fair bit of them during the day as well. I kinda dove into some of that reasoning here:

Properly setup with the correct parameters, they'll typically be visible at the mouth of their burrow, waiting for food.

Here's a shelf of Sabah Blue holdbacks after lights out:

Here's the same shelf around noon:

I did not realise they dug too! I was just reading up on them I thought they were strict arboreal, I didn't realise they were just humidity loving psalmo/tapi 😍.
I am going off to learn more now, you have peaked my interest 😁.
Thank you btw ☺

Picking one species is painful and changes day to day. If I could only keep one, it's my Davus sp. Panama for now. Both of mine are docile and generally out and about. The red is truly stunning. My Phormictopus and Pachypus will probably take the top spot as they gain adult colors.
