i go on vacation to the ocean just to collect rocks and wood. Nothing better then a day walking the shores and coming back with a full bag.
I bet u find some gorgeous stuff on the beach😍😍 and everything is probably so smooth from the ocean! lol come steal rocks with me at my national parks😂😂 idk why it’s illegal they r parks made of stone all in southern Utah are so they are not rare? Must be a rule for a reason.

because everyone has a pickup in the states and they could just haul away the entire desert.

Parasites!!!!
Tapeworms, hookworms, ticks, human bot fly larvae etc. etc. Just....NO THANKS!!!!

I've had dogs all my life up to 2017. I have had puppies with hookworm which was treated of course. Hookworms can be transferred to humans from dogs. Just don't let them lick you on the face or an open wound on your hand for instance.

For me even though I keep a colony of them, roaches. Roaches are known to habitate in a human's ear. I have personally met a person that fell asleep camping in Florida. He fell asleep outside of his tent. He woke up screaming from the pain in his ear. A doctor's visit later revealed a large cockroach removed from his ear.....yup.

One more terrifying invert I crossed paths with in Northern Arkansas back in the late 80's. It was on a campground at night. Was wakened by a friend yelling at us to come look.

When I went outside these roughly 3 inch long flying bugs were all over our tent and on a campground light pole. I took a 1 inch diameter stick and put it close to the insects pinchers. It grabbed the stick and I actually could feel the vibration from the strength of it's pinchers.

I never knew or heard of these up until a couple years ago. I learned that they are called Dobsonflies. The ones that were everywhere were the females. No just no, I don't ever want to encounter them again.

Yes but not just a few more like hundreds upon hundreds. Was like an invasion. They were attracted to the light on the light pole. They were also flying all around us. We were also camped right by the river. I don't remember what river it was though, too long ago.

The one thing that has stuck with me up to even now is how powerful the female's bite is.

I wish I had this reaction 🤮 to that I would feel crawling on my skin for weeks!!! Probably so cool to see the swarm though!! With that many could u hear them?! Makes me think of our Utah cricket invasion year driving and 4 wheeling the road was moving and the crunch under the tires. I would love to feel that stick vibrate with her bite!!

Omg I can imagine!!! This might really become part of a crazy dream tonight I have a feeling! Just curious have u ever seen as many since that time? I had the cricket year then a monarch butterfly year which was the most amazing beautiful thing u could imagine millions and millions then I’ve never seen them again? I maybe see one monarch a year and that’s it. I don’t know if so much growth and destroying natural habitats or temps or pollution or what or if this is natural but it’s weird in mass then nothing.

No I never seen another one again and I'm happy about that. I live in Illinois and never seen them here or anywhere else I've been in the U.S.

i love this insect. Only saw two in my life. Seeing these is a sign of a healthy ecosystem. They are very sensitive to water pollution.

Only picture i ever got to take. I felt privileged. Size is like a big whole thumb. But i can see why some don’t like them.

They live in Minerva , oh I’ve caught them before. Ages ago . Never saw a swarm that’s rare .

The dobsonflies I seen in Arkansas were bigger than a thumb.

If you ever get bit by a female you'll never forget it.

Any parasitic invert which uses humans as a host species. Diptera is kind of a love-hate for me. On one hand there are a lot of really cool families but then there are a lot that are horrifying; tsetse, mosquito, horsefly, any biting fly really.

Love me some robber flies though. They are so cool looking and their behaviour is wild. 20220730131019_IMG_3430.JPG
