Lately my daughter really is taking a shine to it and even has a mini enclosure filled with potato bugs and lady bugs.. NO spiders for her tho lol.. YET

I'd love to go on an outing. I'm in Kent, my main transportation is a bicycle (so anything within about 40 miles is fine for a day trip. Or a little further if there is good bus transportation in the area.).

Let us know if you get any details! Sounds like fun!

Always down for an outing...holla!
I was thinking it would be nice to camp in the crab creek area. It was really nice back there and last time we didn't get to spend enough time in that location. I was thinking it would be great for herping and for invert collection as well due to the diverse habitats in such close proximity.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I'm in Vancouver, WA half the time and the other half is spent in Everett, WA. I'd definitely be down for some collecting or whatever. I'm new to arthropods, but have a decent amount of experience with herpetology.

That's roughly a 3-day bike trip each way for me, unfortunately a bit out of the range of what I could do this August. (Time-wise, I've done bike tours before, but starting school in September...). But it sounds like an awesome trip - if it were planned a little more in advance (say, maybe for next august?) I would love to!

You could always hitch a ride with someone in an automobile.

True, if there are some firm plans, and someone willing to pick me up (Gladly pay gas money), I'm all for it! :)

I do want to explore that area some more and probably have enough time off to devote to a slightly extended weekend. BUT, I'm in the process of working out both a Texas trip and a Yakima floater. Any dates in mind?

jaky- if I make it out I can pick up a body or two;)

How does the third or fourth weekend in August sound?
Sounds good to me. August is really the only month I don't have anything going on. Currently I'm at Comic Con and September I'm going on a cruise.

I didn't realize that Crab Creek was in Moses Lake. I know a guy who was there last week and caught rattle snakes and scorpions. I probably wouldn't want to take any rattle snakes home, but a scorpion or two may be nice. Anyone have any snake sticks?

There will be hooks here. Also, collection of herps is illegal in WA. Then again technically invert collection is also illegal in WA, but don't worry Fish & Wildlife has assured me that the laws are only 'selectively' enforced.:sarcasm:

I am good for Fri night the 24th through Sun the 26th. The weekend before that not so much.

For those of you coming to the function next month, I found some inexpensive snake hooks. Snake Hook. They are 19% off online and if you are a Petco member you may have an additional 10% off coupon in your email.

I would not recommend that hook for this kind of herping. It will be broken in no time and at a max length of 26" wont do you any good on a crote that is longer than the hook.
