Yes
Mine is growing medium speed. It’s still under an inch.

V. chromatus are skittish and a little unpredictable. If you get a sling and grow it up, you should be fine, but I would avoid getting a juvenile/adult until you've had a little more practice.

As for growth rate, this girl went from 1/2" sling to over 5" DLS in about 2.5 years:
