I’m so sorry to hear this. Heart wrenching to lose one you’ve raised from a wee one and expected to have for a long time to come. My sincere condolences.
Thank you. ❤ I keep many Cyriocosmus species so I've come to accept the fact that they won't be here for more than a few years, but this one was only 1,5. Raised from a microscopic speck of dirt.

I checked on her 10 minutes ago and she was actually looking slightly better, walking around almost like normal with a mealworm in her mouth. I don't want to get my hopes up but I won't do anything drastic either. If I'm extremely lucky the sucking stomach was torn off the moult and she was just being extra and stubborn when I tried to get some water into her. We'll just have to wait and see.

Edit: So it's been almost 10 hours since my last post and I just checked on her one last time before bed. She's still up, standing on her tippy toes while grooming herself. The worm is gone (didn't want to disturb her so couldn't look for a bolus or uneaten remains) and she's showing no death curl tendencies as far as I could tell. Still not out of the woods but not actively dying either. Let's hope for the best.

Put the C fimbriatus in a better enclosure and boy did she give me what for. Can see the poor paintbrush she took hostage.

She has since calmed down, let the hostage go and is working on her web.

I'm not religious in any way, but sometimes I think some tarantula Gods are watching me. Last month they cursed me when I, like a dum-dum, tried catching a bolting Psalmopoeus sling with my bare hand (I sprained that same hand pretty badly an hour later), but this time around they saw my pain, took pity upon me, and said: "eh, whatever, she's struggled enough, let's revive that little Cyriocosmus."

Two nights ago she was dying. Didn't drink, was in a death curl, sucking stomach not found in moult. Today she seemed completely normal and now she's wandering around snacking on a roach I offered her. The worm from before is gone and her abdomen is larger.

I don't even know what to say. I feel such incredible - and slightly confused - relief. My beautiful girl. Welcome back to life. I hope you're not going anywhere for a long time. ❤

Checked in on the Omothymus sp valhalla EWL'S and they are doing great. Cannot wait for these to molt out to little spiderlings.

Got a big female B. auratum yesterday, she was my consolation prize for losing my T. albo a couple weeks ago. Also my V. chromatus isn't doing so hot again, I feel like I'm gonna lose that spider every other week.

Not at all 😂 why you gotta age me like that 😂
Peats been my go to since the 90s. I don't mix anything with it. I do keep one spot saturated away from the eggs and the very bottom of the soil is ore soaked before I add the top layer. Hold the perfect amount of humidity.

I see the darker, more moist spots peaking through. I imagine there was a pretty high learning curve getting and keeping the right setup for this lol. There are better options now IMO if you want to DM me to discuss them, but I totally understand the if-it's-not-broke mentality ;) . Congrats again.

I've tried so many methods but this is my go to. Never had an issue with it at all. Definitely PM me though I'm always looking for new stuff to try.

Gave my new auratum a water dish last night because she didn't have one in the enclosure she came with. Found her basically swimming in it this afternoon. I don't know how they were getting water to her in the shop she was living in, but whatever it was wasn't enough clearly. Glad she's here now.

A story in two acts.

Usually I wouldn't bother with the mushroom, but it grew straight out of my female Amazonius burgessi burrow and I haven't seen her in a while. So I pulled the mushroom and checked if the spider is OK. She was very much OK.

She is downright gorgeous! 😍 Is she always this stunning? I love my A. germani, but hadn't really been interested in this species at all because all the pics just looked like a dull brown/gray spider. Now I'm thinking maybe I've only seen terrible pictures....

She shares this trait with quite a lot of tarantulas - in a poor light she appears muddy brown except for the red setae, but take a picture with a flash and all the colors suddenly pop. I love the darker blue tones, not the typical neon blue of, say, a P. metallica. There's even some purple here and there.

Not exactly today, but over the last 2 days I've rehoused 9 slings that are approaching molts and the vials they were in just seemed too small for them to molt without issue...

First was this 0.0.1 Ornithoctoninae sp. Malthai, who is already a gimp and can't afford to lose any other legs!

Then it was 0.0.2 Ornithoctoninae sp. Da Mi:

Next, 0.0.3 Avicularia rufa (only got pics of 2):

P3110066.JPG

Finally, 0.0.3 Psalmopoeus emeraldus, all of which look like they could pop at any moment. In true Psalmo fashion, though, each of them has eaten since the rehouse, 😆.

I don't think I'll do any rehousings this weekend but I'll be building enclosures for next week... 😉

Post molt double fist, P platyomma - Petichor. He's more orange than pink, handsome boy.

Freebie T albo - Betazoid. Got rehoused. Maybe 1.5" and slapped at me. Looking real smug PXL_20240317_003051833.jpg

I still have 3 more rehouses but I'm moving slow and it's a work night
