I just received a notification on my phone about a "memory," it was a compilation of photos from a year ago today:

Screenshot_20231231-090948.png

Her little legs weren't quite reaching wall to wall. I think that vial is 2" wide, might be less. All she did was push moss around so she got named Bob after the Builder

Her last molt was 6 inches!!!

Bob, Pamphobeteus machala, first sling I raised and the day I brought her home.

From my Sericopelma generalum / generala enclosure. Biggest mushroom I've seen yet!

Look how much it grew in less than 3hrs

Continuing to prep for what looks to be a busy Ornithoctoninae spp breeding season, starting with moving some more mature females into new enclosures tonight. Last week it was a Phormingochilus sp Sabah Blue and a paired Cyriopagopus sp Sumatran Tiger. This week, three more girls are getting some fresh new real estate.

20240102_192930.jpg
First up is a gorgeous female Phormingochilus pennellhewlettorum. She's probably the most outgoing specimen from the genus I have, almost always out on display at the mouth of her cork tube. She's got a fresh suitor waiting for her to settle in to her new place, but that shouldn't take long. I'm really looking forward to this project as I've never attempted to breed this species yet, but I have a good success record with the genus.

She still wanted a hug after moving in to her new digs.

Next up is one of two Phormingochilus sp Akcaya that I'll be looking to pair with the mature male currently in the facility. This is a female from the first US eggsack produced by @grayzone all those years ago.

I've rarely got to see her these past few years as when I last rehoused her, it was an emergency rehouse due to ants and she got a cork slab instead of a round. IME, Ornithoctoninae spp need a strong, secure hide to be more outgoing and visible and I never corrected that since her last rehouse. Well, now it's fixed and here she is in her new round, looking comfy in her sphagnum moss bed already lol. Hopefully she'll be out and about a bit more often.

Finally for tonight, I moved the second female Akcaya I'll be looking to pair here shortly. This girl is about a year younger than the first and is an imported bloodline. Out of all three of my mature female Akcaya's, this one consistently has the worst temperament.

This was her 14 months ago when she was last rehoused.

.... And this was her maybe 14 minutes ago lol. Same cranky spider lol. She had to let me know how displeased she was at being dug up....

20240102_200554.jpg
... And being cupped.

20240102_201114.jpg
..... And, of course, with being unceremoniously prodded into a brand new luxury home. Such an ungrateful specimen lol. Here's hoping her attitude isn't hereditary lol.

Today I packed up and shipped my MM Chilobrachys fimbriatus and MM Avicularia avicularia to their new homes. The fimbriatus didn't feel like posing for pics...

I also rehoused my big female Megaphobema robustum (Natalia). I'd been battling mold in her old enclosure for months, and every time I almost had it under control, it would come back twofold. Anyway, it gave me a reason to get a look at her and get her into a deeper enclosure...

Who throws a water dish and then tries to blame it on another tarantula's tampering of a lid???

Enoch, Psalmopoeus cambridgei, paying me back for watering her web last night.

It started to rain last night and a lot of my Ts were not having the pressure change. Even my usually stoic G. porteri was trying to climb the walls.

Had a really crappy situation unfold yesterday (possibly the night before) when one of the Cyriopagopus sp. “Bach Ma” slings I’ve grown out into a small juvenile managed to open the lid on its vial and escape (!).

The worst part is that I was going to rehouse this specimen in short order and probably would have already done so if not for coming down with COVID again (getting better).

Fornax, Ephebopus cyanognathus, atop the old turret, protesting the new enclosure. It makes me so sad to rehouse turret builders :(

After a few repositions to make sure she was aiming at me, she's daring me to put the lid back on

Aphonopelma vorhiesi - Orion Pax

I'm just going to add more here and limit myself to one post today

Rehoused this Ornithoctoninae sp Vietnam Silver, "Airstream." Don't look, she's hiding.

My first escape during a rehouse, I use a big bag so she didn't get far. Since she's coming from the enclosure I tried to move her from before she molted (way too small), I let her take a few laps to get a feel for her legs not touching a wall.

A few minutes later, this is the first time I've seen this gorgeous specimen. Holy smokes.
