Do not NAME the vendor. You do that, and all this is for nothing.

How did my idea start?

There is a vendor, i wont name country because that alludes to the vendor, that i love looking up.

They have nice graphics, well compartimented sections and layout.

They have been around long enough that one buying there should get what they are purchasing, with quality and not be afraid of making the wrong choice.

Its not where i buy my tarantulas. I love where i buy my tarantulas. But i yearn to get service from this

“Mystery vendor”.

I love how you don’t have questions when you purchase from them. Its straightforward. Has basic care info even if its just a suggestion; we are all responsible for doing our research.

They give you just enough to send you on the right path.

They always have interesting species available. They offer things hard to find. I dont care how they got it. I know with their creds, the poker game is too risky.

I have trust if i asked them, they would tell me about the provenance. If they didnt, that would be bad for them.

They have great knowledgeable employees. I guess i shouldnt know who works there but i know some who do and thats enough for me.

I wish we had more vendors like this.

Transperant. Choice. Readable, accessable layout, up to date. Omgs, UP TO DATE.

I love going to that site every other day, its like they know what i am looking for.

Theres no doubt what you are getting when you buy a sling.

Gods save us all that this becomes the mainstream of all tarantula vendors. However, the others will never have the creds.

You can change staff, name, admin… you will never have creds unless you are stable.

Thank you.

Save me.

I want to give you my money.

I have 2 great vendors, one that has a nice website, nice selection and great selection and the second vendor specialises in rarer and more exotic tarantulas than the first. The second has a better reputation for caring for the Ts, however I have never had a problem by the first vendor and had excellent service from the first whenever I needed to cancel or adjust the order.

I love both, I’d say I visit the first more often with their selection.

Thanks for your contribution. This adds to what we love about a certain vendor.

The only vendor I've purchased from is ..................... how shall I put this? Geographically compatible. No shipping charge. Just a 15 minute drive.

That means locality is important to you.

I drive to my vendor. But since its usualy more then an hours drive, i spend a lot when i go.

So i don’t go often.

I like the possibility of shipping. My vendor offers it and i could possibly get freebies.

I just go to the store though. Because i get to see the spiders.

I’d love if I could visit a store but there aren’t ones around where I live so I always order online. Expos are all far away from me too, it’s a shame they miss out so many places of the country.

I haven’t had a freebie yet, I’d love one

No store front, but he doesn't mind if you stop by to pick stuff up. He goes to a lot of expos, but I work weekends, so that's a conflict for me. Any purchase over $100 includes a freebie.

Yeah, I credit good vendors to my empty bank account. I know of 5 that I have to fight the urge to stay away from. Getting bored on my lunch is a dangerous time if my phone is fully charged lol

I have a narrow shipping window due to extreme temperatures in the summer. By the time it's cool enough to receive it's too cold to ship...and by the time their winter is over, it's back to 100 degrees here. So I haven't placed many orders east of me. And when I have, it's the decades of experience that comforts me.

I only have one local website breeder that I will buy from (still almost a 2 hour drive when I pick up). I'm blessed with his selection and the ability to avoid shipping. But there's something in his water...I can't get a male sling from them to save my life. 😂

I guess the actual closest company is the shadiest origin story I personally am aware of operating under a darling front.

I've got a new to me breeder several hours away that offers the cheapest overnight shipping within the state, that I have ever seen anywhere. And really good prices. The only thing stopping me are the below freezing temps this week. I'm driving down that way next week to pick up a male so I will be placing an order soon. I intentionally omitted the shipping cost because I don't want you guys buying my cheap spiders before I can. I really like this company. Best customer service I have encountered I think.

We even have scandal with our expos. There are two in the big city. One is a "householdname-con." If you vend at that one, you are blacklisted from the other. Pure cringe.

AB reviews are a life saver. I just referred someone to this site because she got scammed in our local group. Not like you think...it was a face to face meetup and they told her the T was molting. It was crawling with mites. Sound dead already to you too? Our local fb pages have a few reputable people, it's where I met the person who inherits my entire collection if something happens to me. Our mods are solid gold.

I do care where the Ts come from. In fact I think I really care. I believe WC stock is good for captive breeding efforts, fresh DNA will only make them healthier. But there are some obviously smuggled species that are easy to identify. When I see one on a list, I do some research. I keep my friends close, and some of my enemies as Facebook friends. What a network.

I would give a portion of my liver to connect with a legal European importer. You guys have all the selection.

I love a great, updated selection* but I worry too much about the individual specimens and the species success here. If you go travel to another country and then suddenly list 20 undescribed species new to the US from that very country, who do those males slings with no preexisting females breed with? Inbreeding? To me that doesn't contribute much to the most important part of this hobby, the captive breeding efforts. But new species sell!

Alternatively, a pioneer will post an undescribed species in their inventory, say how he obtained it, to scrutinize the possibility of a hybrid or mislabeling, and their network draws some respectable figures that have also contributed significantly. I really love being the dumbest person in the room here 😂

I would rather pay my dues as a token of gratitude to the pioneers of the hobby, actual CB/B, I wish I knew where our breeders forwarded their CB slings so I could get my hands on their babies. Everything I know about tarantulas likely came from them in one form or another, even if it was only passed down to someone else and they paid it forward to me. I'm almost done with my species list for a while...the ones left are some of those most basic Ts, the historical deli cup specials...it will be about having such an iconic tarantula FROM THEM.

I have no qualms about user interface making it more difficult to order tarantulas. It should be harder than ordering a pizza.

I have a soft spot for women owned businesses/breeders, I guess because I'm sexist 😂 One of them taught me how to safely package a tarantula for shipping so I am forever endebted to her. She strikes me as a force of nature...her website is hilarious and clever...I truly commend her for the branding...visually, I bet it reminds one customer base of their most frequented internet bookmarks 😂 and it stimulates them to buy tarantulas. I just want to shake her hand.

There is another that sells very cheap males, and I love her for that. Most everywhere else they are labeled as unsexed and there is no price break for the uncertainty. Literally every order I have ever placed they have gone the extra mile at no expense to me. When I asked that the option be provided to everyone else, she added it.

I am still holding a bit of a grudge against a very well known company. It's their packaging. They literally throw the vials into a foam lined box, and their promotional stickers are thicker/heavier than the single sheet of tissue paper they "pad" it with. Ive placed several orders, they all came like that. Even the large overstock box, I mean mystery box I ordered as a birthday present to myself, just free floating in there. I usually never shipped one T, but due to a stock issue it was the only way...I got to see a few little spasms before it became unresponsive during the unboxing I was recording...molded the next day...not molted, MOLD...and I'm sorry...whoever packed it didn't know much about the process. Sopping wet towel, species where the lows are published at about 76F and no heating of any kind. This is the only loss I've ever had shipping.

Coolest freebie I ever got: a P cambridgei sling that had escaped at the breeders house. He didn't even know was loose, he just saw it crawling up the lamp out of the corner of his eye while he was waiting for me to arrive. It was my first order with him/first time meeting him and he called it the common name!? when he offered it to me 😂 I swear I'm not as dumb as I look, but he did seem visibly surprised that I knew the scientific name 😂 And yes it turned out to be a danged female 😂😂😂😂

*There is one legend on my wish list that uses Dugisella and my little brain isn't ready to go down that road yet , Im still trying to figure out how to distinguish different Aphonopelma

My favorite breeder/seller's will always be the ones that are:

1. Legal
That entails that I know what is legal to be sold that was imported. Also what is legal to be sold across state lines in the U.S. Also knowing newly discovered tarantulas in other countries and avoiding the sellers that have them for sale sometimes days after discovery. That is smuggling and I will not support it.

One Example of Legality:

2. Ethical
Kind of falls in line with legal and everything else including not inbreeding or field collecting mass amounts of tarantulas where it's legal.

3. Communicates by answering all my questions. If they are willing to answer the tough questions I throw at them like:
A. Are the parents sac mates?
B. Are the parents wild caught?
C. Any other questions pertaining to the parents if I'm looking to buy slings.

Sometimes it is unknown as the slings were imported as the seller holds a license to import and they are not provided with such information.

Either way I want information before I make a calculated purchase.

One Example:
From what I learned from one breeder.
Most if not all Psalmopoeus pulcher in the U.S. can be derived from generational inbreeding. All related to one gravid female imported into the U.S years ago.

If I want to purchase a P. pulcher sling the seller has to verify to me they hold a license to import and the slings were imported. Hopefully they might know the source to answer other questions. If not it's up to me whether to purchase or not.

4. Know how to pack tarantulas of any size so they survive. I'm not just talking about the box with heat or cold packs. I'm talking about the packing of the vials for slings to survive.

A poorly packed vial can equate to a DOA or a sling that dies from desiccation by the next day or longer.

5. Reputable
Not just from pricing and packing but what I already mentioned above.

Example of unethical sellers:
Physical Chain Pet Stores and some exotic stores - From where they source their tarantulas to the knowledge and care of the employees = not much to nothing.

These are just some of the outlines for me to follow when buying from sellers from whomever it may be.

My most used vendor for shipping has very tiny captive bred slings that they have produced available at a very reasonable price point. I like tiny slings, so I've gone back for more a couple times. Another I bought from when they had what I wanted on sale, and had several species I wanted in stock. Another very popular vendor, I had an unpleasant experience with the customer service and then the owner, and I won't be back (and I believe they black-listed me anyway for pointing out to them privately why I felt the situation was handled poorly). I understand that things can go wrong. And that's when you see what kind of company or person you're actually dealing with. The ones that stand behind their product/animals and treat me fairly without being pushed to do the right thing are the ones that will get my repeat business.

Only have 2 or 3. And No free slings please as many are too young. I hope for 24 hour delivery. Or I buy from a show from them. 🙂 Accurate listings of terms of sex and size. Approachable for post purchase advice. Impeccable packaging.
