I think the use of the word "confrontation" in this case is a farce though. For those who feel this site is too confrontational, 1) why do you keep coming here and 2) maybe what you are experiencing isn't confrontation as much as a different point of view.
I don't think it's fair to cry "Confrontation! COOOOONfrontation!!!" the second someone's opinion, knowledge or experience are challenged. If anyone is that sensitive, this probably isn't the place for you.

Personally I don't think there's a forum out there with better or more sensible moderation then A-Pets. I happen to know for a fact that every single post of every single thread are reviewed on A-Pets. For those attempting to paint a picture of anarchy here, you couldn't be further off point.

I also cannot see a single attack against Telson's site in this thread. I see many honest opinions, nothing more. I would hope that anyone not capable of accepting honest feedback would know better than to start an on-line forum. That would be a never ending headache.

On the issues of site pimping and creating a mirror of an existing forum, In my opinion this is bad form as well as sorely lacking in the realm of creativity. This could have been easily avoided with a few simple steps.
1) Simply ask yourself, "What would be really useful to the hobby in a website?" I can't see the answer being "Another bug forum that looks just like a couple others...only without the confrotation!".
2) Maybe approach the webmaster who's site is the blueprint of your "new" site and team up with them to discuss ideas. Maybe Telson's site could host specifically outlined data on taxonomy, breeding, advanced husbandry, photography etc. in which case, A-pets (or patrons of any board) could link to sp. specific information for reference. Actually, that's already been done as well but the point is, there is so much room for more useful data but how many boards does it take to illustrate one's excitement over a molting T or a s'ling eating it's cricket? There's nothing wrong with those kind of posts until you've read them 3 times on 3 different forums.

I think Scott's and Atrax's last posts just about sum it up perfectly.

Jon

p.s. Telson, I do like the color scheme. It is pretty relaxing on the eyes.

Um...ok...looking at the site some more, this looks like plaigerism.

Dude...

Some people just don't get it.....

I thought this garbage was done when Scott piped in for one thing, and for another, how anyone can look at the site, ignore everytrhing that I've said and continue to use words like "rip off" and "plaigeriasm" and expect me NOT to be offended...

Saying "It looks too much like this site..." is making a statement....

Saying words like plaigerism and ripp off are insults!

There are a lot of people here who can make statements without being insulting, even when they disagree.

Get it yet?!?

edit: Besides all of this, it's nothing but new people repeating the SAME insults, and it's REALLY starting to make me mad. The ONLY reason to continue this thread is to PISS TELSON OFF. Unless you have something CONSTRUCTIVE to say, why keep going and going and going on this?!?

Hmmm...I made my best attempt to be constructive. I can't find where in the last 2 or 3 posts anyone used the words rip off. Still, it's only a synonym, the meaning is what counts, not one's choice of dialect. When you are dealing with so many different people from all over the world, one should focus more on the underlying meaning of a statement rather than one's choice of words, at least in my opinion. I think this advice may be useful to a new webmaster.

See ya. :)

I have nothing against you Telson but it seems to me that you are being as confrontational as anyone else on this board. I wish you much luck with your new site and I will be checking it out and waiting for all the new goodies you have instore for us over there. :) I once again must say this board is not confrontational though as I have been to sites that will just rip you apart for no other reason than the fun of it.

Scenerio:

College Professor anounces the following assignment:

"Class, create a webpage."

Time passes and now it is time to unviel all the students' work.

Student A produces Arachnoboards.

Student B produces Chelicera.com Boards

What do you think that the professor would think or do?

If that were true, Scott would have locked the thread. He didn't and he even *corrected* you in that your indignant protests are off base.

Because *actions* not words are what counts. You didn't launch the site with 20 pages of care and taxonomy info. You didn't launch the site with a gallery of personal photographs. You didn't launch the site with a personal review section on books that you personally thought should be recognised. You didn't do *anything* that could be construed as showing an original thought, and what you did do looks by all indications to be nothing more than a clone of this site. Whether that was your real intent is meaningless, you did what you did and people interpreted your actions quite logically by my take.

Atrax:

That wasn't really aimed at you, sorry for not being clear on that. Your constructive suggestions are noted, thanks.

If you'll look a little closer you'll notice that *I* didn't *launch* the site at all!!!!

Finally looked over this thread as well as looking at the site.

I have to say I'm leaning towards the monkeys point of view here. While of course a new site isn't a bad thing there is the problem with it being nearly a carbon copy sorry but I would prefer to see something original.

I think that this thread has gone as far as it can go with retaining a semblance of civility.

We all seem to know what the most vocal people think, so I am closing this thread as there really isn't anything further to say.

If anyone has any furhter comments or questions on this and would like to talk with us about them, you know how to reach us. :)

Good Luck with your site, Telson.

Regards,
Debby
