Tarantula Breeding

I'm still a newbie in the hobby and have never bred tarantulas in my entire life, though soon my P. Regalis will become old enough to breed (yeah "newbie" and "poecilotheria" in one sentence, judge me). So I was wondering what should I know before attempting this. Like I know that people take out cocoons from females but I have no idea why and..well when to do so.

There are a lot of posts on this forum that discuss this and other breeding answers.

Rather than expect people to take time out of their lives for your interest, at least research the topic first. Then if you have specific questions come back.😉

If you take this approach, you’ll learn way more than you expect!

Pick a different species to breed.

I did research this.

i won’t give you all my results. But i can tell you one thing, the females enclosure needs to be big.

I don't understand why new keepers want to breed abundantly available tarantulas or at all.

Spend time taking care of them first getting your husbandry and rehouses down before jumping the gun especially with an OW for a first pairing attempt.

i can only speak for myself; i have years to make to be considered experienced. But i still hope to do it one day. More of a breeding project, with another person, of a species that could be interesting.

its a full circle for me. I breed saturniid moths. I like the whole process of cocoon, to pupa to caterpilar, to moth, to breed, to egg…

but i won’t do that now and probably never will. The only person I trust is over seas. Figure that one out *sos*

maybe its a “can” thing. I don’t have access to tarantulas in their prime breeding age. Nor do i have contacts.

Who said it's abundant? I have like one
exotic store in my town, and like 2-3 in the near town, none of which has Regalis in it, neither any other poecilotheria. I bought it from other keeper that I barely found.

As I had both female and male I was thinking maybe I could try to breed them, don't want to waste the male, you know. If it's a bad idea for a newbie, that's ok I'm not gonna do this.

Sorry, I'm new to this forum. I expected that not only I would have answers or advises to my question but also chat with people who also keep Ts (I don't have friends who like spiders 😭 so lonely 😭😭). If it's actually bad thing to ask already answered question then my apologies, will be smarter next time.

There are plenty of people who will chat, do not worry. I always learn more info when I search this AB forum first. It's the worlds largest online arachnid resource. I wouldn't recommend an approach if I had not done it myself with good or great results. ;)

Well, I didn't know about existence of this forum before. I mostly seek info on native sites..and that had it's own problems. Misinformation, you know. Literally had a bad situation two months ago, when read that you can keep Inceis together. Tried it out with 3 slings, ended up with really fat one. Only after that I've found AB and learned that I'm an absolute idiot for doing so😅

welcome to ab.

most people i know who have bred Poecilotheria sp. will cohabit the mature male with the female in order to breed them and fish out the male after a week or two when he is conviniently placed on the sides of the enclosure to capture him easily.

that is a little risky for the male, but makes it much less risky for the keepers and should be doable if you can rehouse them safely & it limits your contact with the spiders during the process.

i am happy you Trusted AB. I know its not local. But its loyal. The information you will get is up to date.

everyone who is here, has a determination to know everything they can, that is true.

no one shares info unless they cross checked it.

and when bad info is shared, it is said asap.

Decades ago some people thought incei could be kept together- they were wrong. The same was said for Avics even earlier- wrong. There's no observed Ts in a group situation published in a scientific journal.

This site has the best info, and most accurate too. It's been around the longest as well, many decades.

As always my native sites keep up with the latest info👍
Still my fault for being lazy and not checking the info. Well, at least I know who is the strongest of 3 slings. Or hungriest (is it a word?). I don't even know should I feed this beast now..
