I'm still a newbie in the hobby and have never bred tarantulas in my entire life, though soon my P. Regalis will become old enough to breed (yeah "newbie" and "poecilotheria" in one sentence, judge me). So I was wondering what should I know before attempting this. Like I know that people take out cocoons from females but I have no idea why and..well when to do so.
welcome to ab.

most people i know who have bred Poecilotheria sp. will cohabit the mature male with the female in order to breed them and fish out the male after a week or two when he is conviniently placed on the sides of the enclosure to capture him easily.

that is a little risky for the male, but makes it much less risky for the keepers and should be doable if you can rehouse them safely & it limits your contact with the spiders during the process.
One night, they don't need more than that....any longer and you're just feeding the male to the female

There is a new video out from Dave’s little Beasties. I know its the metallica, but its definitely worth watching to learn.

i agree, for mating purposes that is all that is needed, however since this was a self proclaimed newbie i thought telling them to get the male as soon as possible may not be the best idea
it should be fine to wait for it to be easily accessible since Poecilotheria sp. have a pretty good track record when it comes to males surviving the pairing without intervention

they also seem to like to take their time. After watching Daves video, and hearing what he said, this tarantula seems to be one you need to give space and extra time.

i see videos of people breeding tarantulas, herding the male to the female. I don’t think it would be a good idea in this scenario.

in any case, its suck a wonderful process. what a privilege people have to be able to do this.

contact a n experienced breeder, once you have a mature male.
New to tarantulas and want to breed Pokies is a train wreck waiting to happen. Breeding means getting in there and splitting them up some times
Having no experience and starting with a medically significant species is. a fools errand despite how chill yours may be.
They are perfectly fine until they are not. One of the worse bite reports I have ever read was a guy trying to separate his P. ornatas.
His reward was a deep journey into the pain cave
