Those are juvenile H. maculata and do not look exactly like their adult counterparts..psionix said:so you are telling me that this one doesn't look exactly like the one in this thread?
Hooray for Kodak Taxonomy lol!;P IMO the 2 species are easily discernable. The spider posted by the original poster in this thread is undoubtedly an S. calceatum.psionix said:that's not a S. calceatum... that's a Heteroscodra maculata...
for me it looks like a juvenile Stromatopelma sp.harrymaculata said:S.calceatum ad fem during cage transfer picture taken through plastic
Do you have permission to post those photos? If not they should be linked to, otherwise it is a copywrite violation.psionix said:for comparison this is what female Stromatopelma calceatum look like:

thank you.ShadowSpectrum said:S. calceatum's scopulate pads on the metatarsi are quite a bit thicker than H. maculata's, while the pads on the tarsi are about the same size. Also, leg IV on S. calceatum is not as thick as H. maculata's. The abdominal patterns are different as well. The easiest way to tell them apart is ventrally though. S. calceatum is black underneath while H. maculata is tan.
