Not trying to be rude here, but why did you get this spider without having the correct setup/ materials for it? Be cautious....without the proper setup these spiders can become very defensive and will try to bolt. Make sure you do maintenance in a secure area. Try to get the materials ASAP to give it the habitat it needs. It's not going to do well at all in a terrestrial setup.

gave it some bark until I can get it a proper enclosure which might take some shopping. Target /Walmart wonder who has clear cereal containers??

I had no clue my mom or someone tossed all my tree spider enclosures.

I'm still confused about why you took on such a spider after reading a lot of your posts.
I would have at least inverted that kritter keeper. I've done it before for aborial spider's as a temp set up but, when I say temporary I mean no more than a day.

Lots of times things are blown off the charts as far as spider's go. This one will probably make you seriously rethink this hobby if not giving the respect it deserves.

Btw in my time in the hobby Phormingochilus have been the most difficult to work with.

All I had was a critter keeper, when my S. calceatum started getting big. I set it on it's side to make it arboreal. For a hide, I took 4 pieces of bark from the backyard, and glued them into a tube shape. He hangs out in there all day. I think it's a he. If my male S. calceatum decides to identify as a female, does that mean he'll acquire a female lifespan?

At least you turned it on it's end? I assume that what you mean. I don't see any issue housing then like that as a temporary home.
It's actually probably going to identify as a isopod or something.

Actually a hairy isopod is kinda cool.

Honestly I don't think it will mind too much. Those enclosures dry out quick unless you plug some vents but if they're like hmacs, they're pretty versatile, as long as it has something upright to get behind, it shouldn't really care. I would pay close attention to the water dish/moisture in there though for sure until a better enclosure comes along...

S. calceatums are the tarantula equivalent of a dandelions. They thrive through neglect.

I may as well try and fix my 10 gal with the damaged lid as it’s for arboreals. Now all I need is some clear plastic to cut. Little big for a 3” spider but it should be happier with space to climb. Any tips? For repairs on acrylic?
Shouldn’t be hard to fix.

I was at a show back this past winter with a vendor and a lady that had a spot next by made a comment somewhere along those lines. 3 am in the morning no matter what.first thing I'm looking at are my spider's. I'm weird I suppose. I put a lot of time and effort and yes money to raise any spider I have the best I can.

Haven't had to do any, obviously let any glue dry for a long time... maybe just get a new piece if it's easier.
I’m adding a new piece yes!
Better question is how to make the lid locking, maybe gorilla tape??

I fixed the 10 gallon tank lid but I gotta wait til the s cal is 4” or so to give it that big of an enclosure? When it’s big enough to eat an adult Dubia.

At four inches a adult male dubia is a big meal for a spider . Hard to tell how big that spider is I'm guessing two and a half probably three in body length not dsl.
How do you currently have it housed?
Unless you are really really calm with spider's and providing it doesn't spook. If your not careful in the way you set the enclosure up and introduce that spider it's going to be a challenge to get it housed in a tank like that .

I'd go8x8x12 until it's big enough for a final home. They do appreciate height at that size and cover. Make it feel safe and you should be okay. And I want you to know I do not all all mean to come off rude, but this is one you probably should have thought more about before purchasing.

I was prepared until this happened;un noticed to me
my arboreal containers got tossed by my mom or something and I’d buy that Exo Terra but I’m low on funds. Maybe I’ll go to Walmart or target and try and find an appropriate sized container.
It’s in here for now and it didn’t even do anything but go in the cup burrow.
I know these have serious speed /bite so I’m
Not fooling around with it until I get a proper enclosure. Last thing I’d want is an escape. It seems happy but that’s just my opinion. Its pre molt also refused a mealworm pupae.

One of my four H.macs is way bigger than that and it's still in a 36 oz deli cup. Granted not for much longer.
I'd invert that critter keeper and give it a hide big enough for it to grow and lots of cover. Giving it looks like it may be a minute before you are able to properly house it.

I don't see anything wrong with the way it's set up. Your T is not very big, so it has plenty of vertical room. I've got mixed feelings about the whole 'portrait' versus 'landscape' mode anyway. Like it's really gonna make a difference which way the enclosure is oriented? My S. calceatum pretty much just stays in it's hide anyway, which is a fraction of the available space.

I mean to be fair you are correct.
When you put a two inch spider in a 157 acre enclosure,I suppose it doesn't matter what way it's oriented.

no clue but pet stores seem to mostly sell males.
prob sell if I can wrangle it when it’s a mature male, last thing I want is it getting loose. prob local sale it’s prob too fast for me to ship it.

Someone else bought GBB. I didn’t bring enough money with me for two spiders and paid the price. Now I gotta wait til I get a job to sneak more Ts in. Tbh I should’ve just saved the $50 for the s cal and used it for something else.
Not sure if any car based delivery jobs would work my car is pretty loud so I’ll be dealing with ear pain tinnitus sucks.
Could be years until the s cal hooks out . And I still need a molt to confirm if it’s male .
