Would something like a 2x2 work better? And how many inches of substrate? He's a climber so I don't want to leave too much of a gap at the top for when he inevitably falls.
If he’s less than an inch, a 2x2 should be fine. I wouldn’t leave more than 1.5x their diagonal leg span to the lid, whatever amount of filling that requires.

I have a new rose hair sling that I've had for about a week. He was originally put in an enclosure too big since I didn't know what size he was going to be. Since then I have downsized him much smaller. I have about 6 in of substrate, a small hide, wet moss in one corner to drink from, and places to hide. He is most likely stressed from his new house and being shipped. He has recently been climbing the walls a lot and trying to stick his legs out through the air holes to get out. I tried to feed him once but he wouldn't eat. Is there any way I can make him more comfortable and help him settle in or is all I need time?
It honestly sounds to me just like regular spider things. Just like all animals, T's can get quite stressed out, and relatively easily. (I mean, imagine if you were just randomly moved miles away from your house!) As for the no eating, I'd just leave it alone and let the T settle down to its environment. Like a previous reply said, it may be wise to take out the moss and replace it with a water dish.

A little bit of personal storytelling, I had recently bought an about 1.5" OBT (Usambara) sling, and although of course OBTs are naturally inclined (especially at this size) to bolt and retreat to their burrows; he was, for lack of a better term, seemed broken. He wouldn't eat, and much like your T, would attempt to stick his legs through the airholes of his little plastic enclosure even on the way home from the breeder.

About two days later, he started eating and exhibiting much more run-of-the-mill OBT traits, so the worry was gone in an instant. Perhaps you should try the same?

I wish more Ts were defensive like obt, man I miss my female and male obts. Poor fellows don’t live long odds are they were inbred.

Im sorry to hear that, OBTs are generally just very fear-mongered. It’s understandable to spread awareness that theres risks with OBTs (and old world species in general), but it shouldn’t eschew people in the hobby away from the OBT or old world species entirely.
