weight can take time.

if its only leg where on the leg? Legs can seal themselves off. But they require much fluids to do repairs: which is why they might not seem to put on weight. Keep feeding at your rythm and providing water.

the next molt will require much energy and fluids so if its eating its good.
An average spider would gain significant size if it ate that much at only 4” it would be fat . Let’s hope it molts soon , or it might not make it.

yep.
Corn starch is fine , right? Although it might just drop the leg. Poor thing is super skittish I’d rather not disturb it unless it bleeds again.
ts have a valve at the base of each leg that they can close off in case of injuries, as a result, leg injuries are almost never fatal and generally arent something to worry about.

Yeah I was surprised it didn’t amputate itself I just had just caught it injuring itself again. I was more worried about it not gaining size It ate 3 adult male roaches , 2 xlarge mealworms . Still skinny .

The spider is still alive no clue if it’s drinking but it seems feeding it has not gained any weight I’ll probably feed another roach today or tomorrow. IMG_2358.jpeg IMG_2357.jpeg IMG_2356.jpeg
Fingers crossed 🤞 ..

Keep trying to reapply the corn flour till the leaking stops, it took 3 days of applying the flour hourly for it to stop on Amaterasu when she came with a split in the abdomen.
Once it stops leaking fill the water dish and let her do her thing n chill.
I would also recommend if she's injured to only feed prekilled, you don't want any struggling knocking the flour off.

She may not be putting on weight because she's using what she gets to replace her hemo' , she can't store it if she needs to use it because shes already skinny and has no reserves. Please be patient and she will eventually put weight on.

I know you are disappointed now but please don't be chalcodes are amazing t's, extremely underrated, once she feels better in herself and she comes out of her shell a bit you will see how amazing they are.

I hope she pulls through ❤

If it were a sucking stomach issue, the feeder would be uneaten. Killed and smooshed, but not eaten. I have one with this problem right now and though I’ve tried multiple things, I take the dead feeder out every time.

This is quite significant info and i think it makes sense.

if prey is not SUCKED, then its not feeded upon.

i think we need to look at our boluses and left overs when we have doubts.

Yes, it definitely looks like it’s been killed and saved for later. Also watching your T carry around the feeder in their mouth for hours, put it down and try again later. I still try though, hoping for a miracle. She’s stopped chasing prey, but I’ve tried to make meal worm soup in case there’s anyway she can suck even a little. She still has a bit of spunk.

Weird mine after 6-7 roaches didn’t get any fatter after first pictures. Is it just naturally skinny ? I’ll have to wait and see if it makes it to the next molt which could be far far away. You had this happen? Currently ?

Is the tarantula getting skinnier or just not fattening up? I still don't think it looks alarmingly skinny.

That is odd. Have you ever fed hornworms? I wouldn’t get them full grown as, if I remember right, your other T’s are plump. Too big a hornworm could take them from plump to downright obese in one shot. I’ve also been told they are very hydrating. Someone please correct me if this is wrong.
Yes, one of my youngest.

Just won’t plump up.

I've tried 7 or so male roaches, that’s probably equal to a hornworm . I’m too low in money to go buy hornworms I have hundreds of roaches I can just feed it .

don't over feed it, otherwise it's gonna go on a huge fast and then you will freak out because int hasn't't eaten in 3 months. 1 cricket or roach a week is fine, don't try to plump it up by loading it with food. Keep the water dish full and keep an eye on the leaking. The T doesn't look unhealthy, some just don't wind up with big ole butts.
Most of the calories right now are probably being used to heal, so just take a breathe and wait. Learn patience

This is super important. Tarantula biology isnt like ours. They have a certain amount of fluid. If its reparing, its taking a strain.

it might not fatten up like you are used to.

but if you actualy see it sucking a whole meal, then yes, its going in there. It can’t be sucking if its a sucking stomach issue.

doesnt mean there can’t be issues with this tarantula.

buts it was hurt. And its a petshoo tarantula.

give yourself some time and don’t focus on the weight gain, even if youve experienced quicker.

especialy if this is a hurt tarantula. Its needs time and rest. Rest is very important.

Yeah my unsexed sub adult 4” could be ages away from a molt. So far the leg never bled again and it’s doing fine. I am not sure if it’s worth feeding again it cannot get fatter???

offer food 1x a week, if refused remove. The offer every other week, then every month. My grande dame fasted for a year
first pix are of Lennox AKA "Chonk". Please note, when I set her enclosure up the hide was at the left end of the enclosure and rotated 90 degrees. The position it is in in the photograph was all her work. She pushed or carried it to its present position.
The last 3 photos are my sub adult nicknamed "Fumbles"
