still a far cry from actual animal abuse IMO.
*shrugs* opinions are like buttholes... everyone has one.. lol

i think that is a mild form of animal abuse... not as severe as say, beating your dog... but its still human enjoyment at the pain/suffering of an animal

the OP states that its his "friend's" scorpion... like it negates the fact that it is still the OP whos videotaping the "gladiator fight"..
i forsee 2 possible outcomes..
1) OP grows up and stops things like this...
2) OP enjoys torturing small animals and ends up being a serial killer...lol
im hoping for #1 haha
people that "fight animals" don't become serial killers.
there's also a difference on opinion and values of animal fighting, including the animals involved, and whether it links to murder, and the percentage of links.

For example, are all soldiers that capture solfiguds and scorps and fight them serial killers? Or are they just bored and not caring for what us hobbyists think?

Well...one good thing came out of this...You did learn something and you can (hopefully) see/hear the problems with this and you will change your feeding behavour in the future
At already said, we who love scorpion as for what they are, don't like those kind of video of amusement. Those who post them are not in this hobby because they love the animals but only because they think its macho cool...

I enjoy hearing roaches go crunch in the jaws of T's and Pedes, in fact that is a good part of why I keep those types of critters. Is that arthropod abuse?

Wow, I didn't realize the thread was going this way.

As a Combat Veteran, I was not happy with how many of the men treated animals. Down south they would crush fence lizards in their hands to mess with me, and step on any insect. We were sometimes ordered to kill animals.

I wanted to punch some people in the face for kicking and shooting dogs.

If you would hear how many men talked, it certainly wasn't pro animal. I was one of the few that cared for the animals.

Blah, let's say someone sent you a new species of scorpion. You would be curious as to how hot it is. You COULD use a single mouse to test the venom... although that doesn't sound ideal.

An emperor has to sting a mouse over and over again, working hard to pierce the animals skin. Very different than how they kill insects.

well, you have a point there man. But the thing is roaches and crickets are the scorps natural food and that is why we breed them. So, what are we going to feed them?:p If there is just some artificial food for them, why not right. The point is, why feed a mouse to a scorp when for the fact that you know that there will be a blood bath between the two...:D

areyou trying to say that mice and scorps do not cross paths in their natural habitats?

They might. They might even have at it.

But either can always try to get away and run off if the battle goes south.
The scorpion and mouse in the now removed video unfortunately could not. They tried! There were several points in the video when both the mouse and the scorpion tried to get away from each other.

But then KK they were in was tipped so they would slide into the same corner. The mouse tried to climb up, and ended up stepping on the scorp, which then stung and grabbed at the mouse, while at the same time trying to back up and away along the side. The mouse instinctively turned around and tried to bite and chew at the claw around his ankle. They seperated, and then the KK was tipped again so the mouse would fall towards the scorp again.

Does THAT happen in the wild?

If the guy wanted to feed a mouse, he should have
1. Fed it a pinkie
2. Knock out the mouse or prekill it humanely before feeding if he HAD to use an adult (I'm guessing you never have to)
3. Feed it in it's own enclosure, and not some "battle arena"

About your "arthropod abuse"...
I'm guessing you feed roaches that are a good size and that pose no immediate threat to your pet. The fact that they go "crunch" also seems like they die relatively quickly, if not immediately.
Yeah, not "arthropod abuse"! That's just good husbandry. Your critters need to eat, so you provide in a way that would be the most humane for both parties.

Now if you feed jerusalem crickets or something else dangerous the same size or bigger than your pedes and scorps, and relish the "crunch" as they chew on each other as they die a pointless, slow, painful death for no good reason other than "it puts on a good show lollolol XD", then yeah, I personally would call that animal abuse, and downright stupid.

Emperor's live in termite mounds in the wild
its assumed that is their natural food, with things like crickets, superworms, and mice maybe filtering in once in a while (not sure on the first two)

but crickets are the universal small reptile/arachnid food because they just provide the perfect nutrients and are cheap and easy to obtain.

There's no reason to feed a mouse to a scorpion/tarantula over crickets. Especially considering all the calcium in the mice.

well they do... what Im trying to say is that, do you like your pet being hurt? And if you know that your pet may be killed or maybe injured are you going to let it happen? the scorps that we keep are in captivity and they are not in the wild, and so, the survival for the fittest thing is already removed once you start owning one (well you are feeding it right). Generally, hobbyist make a haven for their pet/scorps and not hell...:D

scorpion Vs. anything = desperate internet attention. I once saw scorpion vs goldfish, very stupid. If you need entertainment by feeding a mouse to something get a damn snake.
