Yay ratties. These guys have really won me over. I just adopted a 6 month old PEW, and he is being a pain with introductions. My four guys want to welcome him, and he just wants to imitate a boxing polar bear. He puffs out, side steps and squeals.
SO now I'm switching their cages daily and doing intros one by one outside the cages. he (Nestle...pictures to come), has calmed down to puffing and squealing. So far only one nick on Icey's foot and one on Boo's. No real calamities. I hope they can work it out.

LOL sounds like my KIDS!! The posturing that goes on among my children is enough to make a great nature documentary by its self! Cantankerous little monsters anyway!!
Good luck!

Wow, 6 years? The place I adopted the brown and white one from said rats lifespan is about a year or so.

I rescued the all brown one from being a feeder and the gray and white one I picked up from xhexdx ;P
It's sadly true, to an extent. Most rats live for 2-4 years; if taken care of and vetted.
The Guiness record for the longest lived rat is 7.4 years.
Fast Eddie was a natural wonder -- especially considering the conditions we rescued him from. I like to think he lived on love...xoxoxoxo

Here's a slideshow I put together of a photoshoot I did last spring with my senior rat, Pansy, and her cagemates as a way to remember her. She's still going strong, still running on her wodent wheel, at two and a half years though!

Anyone ever seen patchwork rats?

I'll see if I can get some pictures soon.

I will have some available for sale shortly, but it would be local pickup only since I'm not sure how to ship mammals...

Their hair falls out and regrows in patches/patterns throughout their life.

One of the most rare recessive genes out there.

My double rex has a "Migrating Hair" pattern!! We laugh about it all the time.. poor thing.. She endures so much emotional trauma for our amusement.

Our "Ivana" the double rex does the same thing! She looks like the world's cutest chemo patient. {D

She just delivered her first (and last!) litter too, btw! We've counted 12-15 rittens in there...but we don't want to disturb them until they're a little bigger. She just had them on the 1st.

Not really. They are fairly common in the fancy if you go to a rat show. What you probably mean the Xtreme patchwork ratties who look like zebras...

Supposedly, there was a feeder-breeder awhile ago selling them for $100 each at herp shows.
