everyone's talking about how they want to meet their perfect other, meanwhile I'm sitting here dealing with the blunt force of highschoolers threatening me every turn. oh life, how do you work? haha.
hang in there bud. im not to far out of school myself i was in the same boat but i woudlnt take that bs. i was picked on from like 3rd grade on till i finaly snapped. i got dirt for herp keepng, and all kinds of other random stuff [used to garden to feed my bearded dragons. and traded produce for crickets]...just be urself and let it roll off and hang in there. teaching people stuff about them is a decent way to get people to understand but not always sadly :(

"just keep on keepin' on"

ever need to vent or anything or just need to chat feel free to message me. im a good listener and willing to give my two cents on a topic :)

^^^^^ LOL!

I've had more than a few people recoil in horror when I tell them I have Ts. It's usually followed by a comment along the lines of, "You'll never have to worry about me stopping by your place!" And that's usually fine by me. :)

The past couple of days I've had some positive comments on the fact that I own a T. Guys have been inquisitive about it instead of freaked out. Maybe there is hope :)

I've never had anyone say anything rude about what I keep, since everyone I tell don't have the gall to say anything about what I do. That and all my friends are demented, just like me, so they appreciate the oddities of life.

I've never had anyone say anything rude either, just that they really don't want to be near them. I brought my female LP's 8-inch molt to work to show everyone, and they thought it was really cool. They could get up close to it, and handle it, knowing that it wasn't going to move. Educate, educate, educate... :)

The one thing i'd hear that always pisses me off is "it's just a spider." and I'm like thinking in my head: "Oh, you're SO lucky you're my friend!".

I have a very detailed understanding of arachnids, and to hear such an ignorant comment literally makes me feel sick. Or like i'll try to explain, and people just would prefer being willfully ignorant.

Good god this nation is totally brainwashed. You go to other countries, and like the locals' reactions are WAY different- Like in south america, some people rejoice when driver ants invade their living space, because despite being VERY dangerous insects, they go in and totally clean everything of pests, then they leave, always on the move. Here in america, everyone would be freaking out and spraying poison everywhere.

I watched a documentary on driver ants once. It pulled me into the world of myrmecology, but sadly every queen I collected was killed when my dog smelled honey and felt the need for an extra protein snack.

And I compretely agree! I brought my B. Smithis exuvium to school today, and almost every single reaction so far was just "ew oh god no kill it"
.... It's already dead...

People just don't understand or like them because of the mass hysteria news reports have created about them. Nobody wants to get educated. They just want to watch Miley Cyrus and Jersey Shore.

I think its more of the fact that people do not want to learn about something that they are set on due to the fact that they may realize that they are wrong. People certainly do not want to feel like they have been wrong all of this time and they may question what else are they wrong about. In reality this is healthy, learning is all about wiping away the fog of ignorance and coming out as more thoughtful and balanced individual.

You guys need to just look harder... We're everywhere ;)

Also, if my boyfriend gave me shit for keeping Ts, his ass would be out the door in a blink of an eye. It's okay to not share the same hobbies, or even think Ts are creepy and gross. It's a completely different thing when someone is intentionally rude, close-minded, and just plain MEAN to their significant others about it. There's no reason to stay with someone who strongly dislikes a part of you, refuses to accept it, and makes you feel bad about it.
We got lucky and married each other(both total arachnophiles) :)
Its awesome having this kind of hobby in common!

None of the spiders I've saved have bit me, nor do I find myself with bug bites. My step-father on the other hand tries to kill them and is constantly being bit by some type of invertebrate, spider or otherwise.
