This adds a little clarity to the P. sp. Panama vs. P. sp. "black" discussion - my P. sp. Panama never had the Christmas tree pattern on the abdomen, even as a 3/4" sling. It was always a solid bronze color. This is more reminiscent of P. ecclesiasticus, which is also found in Ecuador. It's also interesting (and likely totally unrelated) that the Ecuadorian Pamphobeteus species have a Christmas tree pattern on the abdomen, as well.
So basically psalmopoeus sp. black is a tree pamphobeteus 😂.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, yes.
The MM you had never got paired to a (sp.. black) did it? I would only pair it with what you bought it as (sp. panama). If you didn’t have the Christmas tree it’s not the same.

If you found a female sp. panama I need some slings, lol.

Nah, never found a female for him. He's still kicking, but I don't suppose he's very potent anymore. As far as I know, the sp. Panama only came in on 1 or 2 imports right around when I got him, and none of those females would be mature yet - at least that what I've been hearing.

I would love to hear how big the mature females get being your male was so small.

I would like to take on another Psalmopoeus Member... Already taking care of P. Cambridgei, P. Irminia, & P. Victori, They're All Great!
P. Black is at the top of the List ... Can I borrow a $ C Note? lol.
I have 29 Tarantulas and Four True Spiders already.
Still, P. Black is a Beauty.

"Wish List" that is...

I had a trade in, so I didn't pay that much for it. Only my 3rd Psalmo, but I'd gladly take a few of each!

That would make more sense, but we all know common names are usually stupid.

Agree lol Space Spiders

OBT is really the only common name that sticks with me.
OBT is easy to say... It Flows ... Like Venom ... Kinda like GBB or BBDB.

Or Funnel Web Spiders give Her the HeeBeeGeeBees. lol

My OBT Isn't Really an Orange Bitey Thing, It's a Dark Bitey Thing "Mikumi DCF" Awesome Animal.

Same Species... Dark Color Form ...Just Saying ... Different Colors Can be Tricky.

When did Baboons stop eating Bananas?

I thought Latin-Greek / Scientific Names were suppose to make Species Identification Easier?
The Commonly Named Ecuadorian Black Tree Spider ... Has 3 Scientific Names associated with it.
Psalmopoeus Sp Black Orchid, Psalmopoeus Sp Black, and Psalmopoeus Sp "Tono Negro"
All depending on which Vender you purchase it from.

Just because the name starts with Psalmopoeus doesn't mean it's a complete/correct Latin name. Actually, until the species is officially described and recognized as such by the proper organizations, it should always be listed with an "sp." in the name - like Psalmopoeus sp. Black, Psalmopoeus sp. Black Orchid, or Psalmopoeus sp. "Tono Negro". The "sp." stands for "species" and indicates that it is an as yet undescribed species that most likely belongs in the genus Psalmopoeus, but there hasn't been enough research done to name it officially. If I found a spider in a tree in Ecuador that I was pretty sure was a Psalmo of some sort, but didn't know which, I could call it Psalmopoeus sp. "Sparkling Black Diamonds" if I wanted to come up with something catchy and attention grabbing to help sell it - there's no oversight as far as that goes. Whichever vendors are listing it without the "sp." are doing a disservice to the hobby by confusing things more than they already are, and the consumer/hobbiest needs to be aware of this and try to sort out the good from the bad...

Psalmopoeus alquitran is the only scientifically described all black Psalmo from Ecuador, as far as I know.
