So real that it is blinding to look at!
If you see something, and it is really there, then it is real
If you see something, and it is not there, then it is virtual
If you doesn't see anything, but it is still there, then it is hidden
If you see nothing, and it is also not there, then it has disappeared

...how can an ugly spider – and P. smithi is IMO the most ugliest of all Poecilotheria (no yellow, only blackish and grey) – be blinding? The only argument for this spider: it's damn rare => something for (stamp)collectors! ;P

just my two cents!

yes...yes...yes...

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around...does it make a sound?

It's cool because it is rare and because it seems to have a very localized population distribution...it makes me want to know why???

What's your point?

Sheesh, all Chris was trying to say is he's happy to have a P. smithi of verified origins (mother from JMV's breeding/father WC) and one that's not some P. pederseni hybrid or something else of the like.

We can play with words all we want... in this case "real" = untainted stock. It was perfectly reasonable use of the word IMO.

The spider also came with a certificate of authenticity... signed in hemolymph.

I do agree with you here!

But Chris was given these spiders... to help with the small numbers of pure stock we have to work with here in the states. This is not stamp collecting... just trying to keep this species in the hobby.

I certainly wouldn't pay the asking price on the slings, and I doubt Chris would either... but if given the spiders to help with chances of breeding them here in this country, well that's a different story.

this is a place for fun! I'm not writing my dissertation...sorry for the informal language use.

Eric put it nicely...I'm excited to have a rare spider (incredibly rare here), given to me with the purpose to get pure bloodlines going here in the US. So the ones I have are reserved for those that we know still have females from those pure lines. These will not be for sale...nor will the offspring (at least not by me). They will be handed out to responsible breeders to further the lineage when and if that time comes...

Chris

**oh yeah...and if you can read this (it's in English instead of a cloaked phrase in another language) then maybe you should get off your high horse and stop pretending that you are the world's gift to arachnology...and actually converse with us on a human level. There should be no elitism here...
I would assume that you don't talk to your fellow arachnologists in Europe in such a mocking way...just because you don't know us doesn't mean we don't know as much as you.

The biggest problem here is that Jean-Michel doesn't have P. smithi female since long time.... :D

So what? What relevance does that have? The mother was from stock that he bred in the past.

So what exactly is your point?

This is the only bloodline that Ray knows for sure is pure. I won't say more, as I don't want to put words in his mouth.

Ok, I understood that the juvi comes directly fom JM.
So it depends since how many years this bloodline is in the USA.

Actually in europe, the only pure bloodline of smithi is the stock from which Ray give some spiderlings to his friends, but really recently...
If the bloodline in USA is from european bloodline before hybridation, that's a good thing.
If the spiderlings comes from europe recently, they are not pure smithi.

That's really simple.

Yes, that's what these are... given to his friends.

Actually, the P. smithi which were recently for sale in the U.S. come from this same eggsac... just not from Ray's half... so they did come from Europe recently (from the owner of the male) and are P. smithi.

If Ray confirms, there is no longer problem

This is Chris's smithi brother or sister. Must take a new photo, this is one or two molts ago.
Also like Eric says, from other half of Ray's real smithi sac.

And today's photo, it's about 4cm LS
With and without flash.

Best regards Uros
