Hi Hendrik,

Sexing by folio works best at P. regalis in my experience.
So, in your opinion, only P. regalis can be sexed accurately this way?

Hi Eric,

no. My opinion is: when you want to explain this method to somebody you should choose P. regalis because the difference between male and female is quite clearly to see (more cleary than on other species).

Hendrik

Hello Martin,

in my experience: yes. (Just using the abdominal folio.) Of course it's easier to distinguish between sexes in P. ornata by looking at the overall colouration.

Best regards,
Hendrik

Hey,

have a look at the carapace of the male, as you can see, the pattern is much more blurry then the female's. I would say at a body length of about 2.5 cm it is easy to sex ornata's this way, especially if you have spiders of both gender to compare.

Cheers, Marc.

I think your pictures is showing P. ornata instead of P. rufilata!
For shure man, Although in my case I was talking about rufilatas I used this picture to show the dimorfism between the sexes in the genus and forgot to post the T´s species in the picture. My bad!!! Thanks for pointing it out. With the rufilatas over here the theory worked so far!!!

Eggsacs

I've had 5 Poecilotheria females (4 species) produce eggsacs within the past 10 days. :) :)

Poecilotheria pederseni w/ eggsac

Poecilotheria fasciata w/ eggsac

Poecilotheria striata w/ eggsac (I have 2 of these w/ sacs)

Poecilotheria ornata w/ eggsac
