I wake up and often see my pokies out. This morning my Rufilata was hanging out in the back, and as always, I'm blown away. She's very calm overall. Never threat postured, never bolted, never gave me any trouble. Always out, and not the least bit light sensitive.

I figured I'd attach a few pictures of some I'm raising currently and others that have been with me for a while now.

If you have any Poeciletheria in your collection, past or present. Feel free to share a picture.

If you never owned a Pokie which one would you start with and why?

P formosa
P regalis
P metallica
P subfusca (highland)

I only have my AF subfusca 'lowland' left now as I could never part with her, sold my others on to focus on the NW species I intend to breed. I kept regalis, metallica & tigrinawesseli as well in the past, never got any pics of the former two as they were super elusive & I didn't really take much pics at the time, but have some of the latter.

Sigh, the ones I can't have (I'm hoping someone else posts pictures, even old ones...)

Poecilotheria rajaei
Poecilotheria srilankensis

And I suppose I would settle for a Poecilotheria hanumavilasumica

I'm obsessed with green spiders so have been hanging my nose over a P. rufilata for while now.

Sadly I excitedly told my partner about the biology of their venom and now I am banned from having one...

I can see why -- she's gorgeous, I wouldn't be able to part with her either! If I'm eventually able to get a pokie, I'm about 99% sure my first choice will be subfusca lowland.

Yeah mine isn't spooked easily. Like I can move her cage and she won't budge at times. Go as far opening the door and she doesn't run to her hide. My presence doesn't bother her like it use to. So I'm not sure the extent that T's adapt or perceive threats. Pokies are pretty predictable as a whole.

I think you would be fine. Just show your partner my msg 😆

well, here are some old pics you may have already seen in the gallery, i see them often but good opportunities for pictures are hard to come by

P. ornata

P. tigrinawesseli

20240911_123912.jpg
and here is a recent one of my P. subfusca 'lowland'

i can't decide which of the three species is my favourite of the genus ...

sometime next spring i am expecting a mature female P. metallica since a friend is reducing his collection, looking forward to that as well :^)

Hmm, i,d probably still go for the P. subfusca 'lowland' since they seem to be amongst the fastest growers, are drop dead gorgeous and quite tolerant of lower temperatures, at least compared to the mainland species.

btw. there is a similar thread around, perhaps wecould link the two?

Beautiful pics! It's hard to get Subfusca in my state and not too long ago a local vendor acquired some highland. I'm really considering buying a few more slings because this is rare and I need a female.

ornata and subfusca always been up near the top of the list for me. Love both of them. I've also kept vittata and metallica

I have never had a rufilata before. Yours is making me wanna get one though. Gorgeous spider

A lot of people don't seem to like that the metallica females turn near black as they mature but imo it makes them look stunning, probably my favourite pokie alongside the rufilata.

Under light the yellow highlights are so bright. Sometimes I look at some of my T's and think to myself "how does this even exist?" The color variations blow my mind

Id recommend them. For the beauty and for the temperament (varies by specimen) but I've heard that mine isn't the only calm one. I read one vendor saying that their female is a saint when it comes to pulling the eggsac.

My Rufilata is my largest at 6.5 inches. She is so calm and always sits out on her bark. I also have:
1x Metallica
1x Regalis
3x Ornata (2 males, 1 female)
2x Tigrinawesseli

My Ornatas growth rates are bonkers. I got them all at an inch back in March. Two are at 4 inches and the other just molted to 4.5. No other spider I've kept has grown like this.

I agree with you. when they turn black they look just as good, if not better. I like the subfusca cuz of how dark they can be too

My subfusca highland is the queen of my collection and my favorite without a doubt. I mainly keep metallica’s but I also keep rufilata, regalis, vittata, tigrinawesseli, ornata, hanumavilasumica, and a regalis/striata hybrid. I love pokies. My collection will always be mostly pokies and I hope to keep every species.
My second favorite species out of what I’ve kept would be a tie between metallica and rufilata.
