Really nice. Mine's a little over 6 inches now, and I think it's female :) . The coloring on yours is really great though, I can't wait until mine molts, it's looking a little faded right now.

Based on my ratheruntested ability to sex ventrally, yes, I think I have a female. I've only had her for about 4 months though, and I'm not sure where she is in her molt cycle. When it molts I'll be able to confirm the sex, and I'll be sure to let everyone know (unless I'm wrong, in which case I'll hope that nobody remembers this and keep my head down ;) ) ;P

yeah well IMO every T are not predictable, but if youre gentle like you say with them( slow moving, no bad moves caused by the stress etc ...)theres less chance it panick's and bite or run or watever ...

The one thing that I have learned is just that be slow and let them go into your hand.Keep in mind I do NOT HANDLE MY T'S FOR FUN I only do it when I have to clean out there tanks or when I want to get a photo.I can say this if you were a T and saw a hand that is 500 times bigger then you were....well lets just say I have had good luck with the T's but yes you are right by letting them come to you is the best way to handle them.

yep, im agreeing with you and this is wut I also do, only when rehousing. I used to be in the middle of every handling debate on AB, really totally against it. but this way I dont handle them too much and I keep a control on my stress if a T stryke out on my hand ... :) wich I think is pretty important to keep a control on my moves at this moment and not panicking

one day my murinus striked out of its container and on my hand, and unfortunatly I've got the reflex to shake my hand ... the poor murinus fall on the floor, fortunatly it was all right, but this day I decided I had to control my adrenaline when a T decide to say me hello from closer. I started to handle smaller specimen as I could'nt handle the big one. now I can handle most of my species (except the big female), but I feel much more in control, wich is in my opinion very important (not handling just for fun here)

here we go, all you need is a bottle

The unhappy gigas, ready for transfer

slowly put the bottle in front of the T

with a long piece of wood, push the abdomen of the tarantula, by slowly(dont be hard , move slow, be smooth and relax) aproaching of its abdomen with the piece of wood, usually, when you tuch its abdomen it will go forward/attack/or play the rock.

after some try you will be able to put it in the container

ready for transfer

when you want to remvove, it, remove the Lid, go to the buttom of the container with the piece of wood without tuching the T

then, put the extremety of the piece of wood down, like this

so you do that ...

there you go

second technique ...
that is all you need

the tarantula

you stuck it with the bottle cup

you put the piece of cartoon between both, slowly

ready to transfer

for a manual transfer, I suggest to take the specimen OUT of its environment before trying to handle it as they,re more defensive in their home, and its normal. I observed that they're much less defensive (run much more then defend) out of their territory., you put your tarantula on your bed, your hand 1 feet far, you use the technique with the piece of wood to aproach it of your hand, it will get on your hand, , there you go, you can take your hand off the ground but not too high ( not more then 5-10 cm )

Nice going Kirdec - I normally use the same method for handling ts as well and it works great. Ts are generally much more predictable than people might think.

Thanks for the nice shots.

Cheers!
