Pamphos are quick, skittish and they flick hairs. But very pretty Ts and very rewarding. It might be a good step up for you.Hi I'm debating getting one of these guys however I have only had experience with "beginner" species.
Is this a big step up on difficulty/experience
If anyone owns one any advice would be appreciated.
Thank youGots 2 of these little beauty's, as mentioned a little jumpy as slings but my sub adults n adults are chill.
I have a 2inch machala sling unsexed called Mini-Mal and a 4.5/ 5 inch female I raised from sling called Maleficent. Both are food bold, like to kick when disturbed, both dug a burrow but never use it, both like a damp sub.
They both eat like pigs, both like to drink alot so make sure you have a good water dish, and my number 1 advice is start little one in a bigger viv then you think. These put on huge size as slings n moult often when small so I would advise you start with at least a 4x4 inch viv or you will be rehousing after the first moult.
They are a great place to start with pampho, my first pampho was Maleficent I have 5 sp and 7 individuals now ranging from 2 inch slings to 7.5 inch females. They are an addictive genus lol but they are a great just relax n enjoy the colour changes as they grow
. You have any more questions you know where we are
.
Thank you for the detailed response the one I'm looking at seems to be a large im unsure if that's a juvi or young adult - is there any major disadvantage to getting them at this size?go for it
mine are a little skittish even as younger adults, but apart from beeing stubborn & kicking hairs during rehousings they are great
very hardy, great eaters
just make sure you get them as small as possible, that early pase goes by so quickly and they start out much bigger than many other NWs anyway
not really, you will still have a great spiderThank you for the detailed response the one I'm looking at seems to be a large im unsure if that's a juvi or young adult - is there any major disadvantage to getting them at this size?
Ah cool tynot really, you will still have a great spider
you just pay slightly more and you get less of the pretty cristmas-pattern sling-stage where they grow like rockets and gain impressive size with each molt
I don't spray its not good for the t's, spikes humidity to much. I overflow the water dish whenever the sub looks dry, how often you do that will depend on your room parameters heat humidity ect.Thank you for the detailed response- how often would you have to spray the subsrate? Also I have a 34cm/34cm/30cm tarantula room enclosure which is pretty big if that's enough? The individual I plan on purchasing (only one available) is stated as a large so I'm not sure if that is a juvenile or young adult. I'm assuming I'd know sex by the vibrancey but looks to be female I think?
I don't think mine has a battery/ electronics in it and for ventilation I have drilled holes all around for cross ventilation (about 5p piece size) I have recently moved my Brachypelma hamorii out of it into a more suitable glass enclosure ( the ones withe the metal mesh across the whole top) I also have a spare aquarium (10/15 gallons I think?) but I will probably buy an new glass enclosure.I don't spray its not good for the t's, spikes humidity to much. Do not use tarantula room enclosures! I had 2 I binned them, not only are they flimsy but they have no air flow and suffocate your t but my brachypelma smithi bit right into the thermometer in the lid broke it, could of killed himself if he hit the battery, they are not safe at all, do not put any t in one of them.
You need to get size confirmation from the seller to decideviv size. If you email them they should give you any info and you can decide from there..
No colour won't tell you, you will need to check the inside of the moult once your t moults, you could try venting the t but it's not an exact science and the only way to be 100% is to check that moult.
Best way, to set up firstI don't think mine has a battery/ electronics in it and for ventilation I have drilled holes all around for cross ventilation (about 5p piece size) I have recently moved my Brachypelma hamorii out of it into a more suitable glass enclosure ( the ones withe the metal mesh across the whole top) I also have a spare aquarium (10/15 gallons I think?) but I will probably buy an new glass enclosure.
I've emailed the seller just waiting on a response from them. I want to get everything set up jsit beforehand
I've tried to find some others that are suitable, most on American websites which ain't useful for me as I'm UK - any suggestions would would be grateful. Yeah I don't think I'll get any more of them to be honestBest way, to set up firstit's what I like to do too.
Fair enough still watch though I really do not trust tarantula rooms at all.
