Hi all. Long time lurker. First time poster....
I received 2 P Formosa's in the mail recently. Both females (I think), both around 3" or so....
Unfortunately they took 3 days in the mail. I picked them up and all seemed fine though. I rehoused them immediately. It went pretty well..for pokies.
Anyhoo I tried to feed them both once they were settled in. Both immediately showed interest. One of them merc'd 2 crickets in a matter of seconds. The other one has a very skinny abdomen. It has been actively hunting and seems mostly normal but it cannot seem to eat. I watched it stalk and misfire over and over for an hour or so. I put 3 crickets in there, and I eventually even added a Dubia to the situation. I know that's probably too many prey items at once, but I was trying to troubleshoot the issue.
I thought maybe it was critically dehydrated so I sprayed the enclosure down and it did seem to find it's water dish but didn't spend much time drinking.
It acts as if its missing a sense or something. It feels around for prey with its front legs but then can't fire into action and finish the job.
This morning I was checking on my collection and she appeared to be sleeping near all the prey items (also sleeping). She awoke when I turned her toward the light and to my surprise she snagged a cricket. Then she just held it there and did not begin eating. I figured she would start snacking after I left for work so I left her alone. When I got home just now I discovered the cricket at the bottom of the enclosure. Dead but not eaten.
She is super jumpy-probably partly because she is so hungry. I am not sure what to do. I had thought maybe her fangs were damaged but after I saw her dispatch a cricket, that seems much less likely.
Any ideas?
