Hi all. Long time lurker. First time poster....

I received 2 P Formosa's in the mail recently. Both females (I think), both around 3" or so....

Unfortunately they took 3 days in the mail. I picked them up and all seemed fine though. I rehoused them immediately. It went pretty well..for pokies.
Anyhoo I tried to feed them both once they were settled in. Both immediately showed interest. One of them merc'd 2 crickets in a matter of seconds. The other one has a very skinny abdomen. It has been actively hunting and seems mostly normal but it cannot seem to eat. I watched it stalk and misfire over and over for an hour or so. I put 3 crickets in there, and I eventually even added a Dubia to the situation. I know that's probably too many prey items at once, but I was trying to troubleshoot the issue.

I thought maybe it was critically dehydrated so I sprayed the enclosure down and it did seem to find it's water dish but didn't spend much time drinking.

It acts as if its missing a sense or something. It feels around for prey with its front legs but then can't fire into action and finish the job.
This morning I was checking on my collection and she appeared to be sleeping near all the prey items (also sleeping). She awoke when I turned her toward the light and to my surprise she snagged a cricket. Then she just held it there and did not begin eating. I figured she would start snacking after I left for work so I left her alone. When I got home just now I discovered the cricket at the bottom of the enclosure. Dead but not eaten.

She is super jumpy-probably partly because she is so hungry. I am not sure what to do. I had thought maybe her fangs were damaged but after I saw her dispatch a cricket, that seems much less likely.

Any ideas?

Possibly a sucking stomach issue , but since you are a new owner and don’t have its last molt ⚡ there’s no way to be 100%.. maybe try chopped up cricket see if it eats mush ?

I will give it a try. I did just fish the roach out of the enclosure and decapitate it. She seemed interested but then got spooked.

I also was able to get her to sit on the acrylic so I could see beneath her. She hadn't done that before-at least not when I was paying attention. also noticed she seems to hang her pedipalps over her mouth a lot more than the other pokies. Almost like she's covering up her teeth. I snuck a couple photos and I can't see her fangs. Maybe someone more schooled than me can weigh in.

looking at her from the belly side though..to me..something seems off...looks like her fangs are missing and there's..goo or something. not good. IMG-8391.jpg

Yeah that’s nuts no fangs definitely hinder the ability to eat greatly , maybe it can eat mush or the roach mush would work too if not crickets 🦗.. no idea 🤷 what that goop is on its mouth .

No fangs? I had this once. The T died of starvation, and that was an easy to feed NW species. Good luck trying to feed an OW arboreal the classic bug soup. Call the seller, get your money back, that T is going to die most likely.

No one should sell that animal. NOT a trustworthy seller at all. If you paid by credit card, call them and open a fraud case. I do it all the time.

try to get a better picture if you can, i cant make out anything

to me it looks like it may have fang stumps, but that white "goo" is worrying, take a closer look to see if it is moving

i would only try to feed it prekilled prey from now on, live prey is just going to stress it out, and possibly quarantine it

as @viper69 said though, you got an animal that came with a defect so do contact the seller about that.

If you suspect nematodes, check to see if your T can move it's pedipalps.
She had been holding them beneath her chelicerae. There I have 4 other pokies to compare her to. They are all holding their palps in the outstretched "normal" position.

Sadly, I think euthanasia is going to be the answer here.

One of the telltale signs of a nematode infection are the loss of the ability to use their pedipalps, this makes eating and cleaning the chelicerae impossible. Another check you can perform is to gently unbalance the T. A healthy T will use all of its legs AND it's pedipalps to balance itself. A sick T cannot use its pedipalps and they will remain tucked under its body.

Here’s a link on nematode infections I found with some options (referring to one of our member here’s experience as well). I have no experience with this, but thought there may be info of use to you here.

Thank you! I have been taking in all the info I can find. If nothing else, this is an opportunity for a learning experience.

Quarantine. Protect the rest of your collection. Any new additions to my collection sit in a different room for a month to be inspected and observed.

There are treatment options but its unlikely your T will survive when symptoms have progressed this far.

Demand a full refund.
