They're kept just like their cousin, Phormictopus cancerides. They're a terrestrial species and if they're slings, keep them on moist sub with enough ventilation. Once they're sub-adult to adults they're more forgiving and do fine on dryish sub but I still usually keep it moist. Give them a hide and water bowl as well at any age stage. Voracious eaters and overall a very interesting species.

I'd say for all things phormitopus, go to Tom Moran for good information. He's the man when it comes to phormics.

And the guy named Phormic isn’t? :(

But to reiterate Tom’s channel is a source of valuable info for anyone starting in the hobby!
Present company excluded, of course! I too have a passion for all things phormitopus!

Yeah, nice and easy to keep...an absolutely fantastic looking species too. The gold/bronze carapace is something else.

I have a juvenile. I keep mine like a P cancerides at the same size. Slightly moist sub, a corkbark shelter and a waterdish! They grow slower than a P cacerides

One of the few NW I would like (and would be able) to keep actually. Their temperament is so bad it's funny :D
Gorgeous too, even the 'standard' cancerides. :)

It is probably my most “lively” specimen. It runs TOWARD disturbances. This past week I fed it a superworm that was at least twice the size of its body (2.5” DLS aka 6.35 cm). There was not even a wrestling match. My little eight-legged samurai snagged it, held it while it flailed for a couple minutes, and after the “tap out”, ate for almost 24 hours with nothing left. All that and looks too.

I'm debating between auratus and s. hispaniola. Thoughts? Which one has more personality, better color, ease of care, etc?
I just recently purchased both. I honestly keep them the same as all the other slings. Great eaters! Fun to watch after you drop a cricket in.

I think they are probably as easy to raise as any brachy. They just grow way faster and you need to watch your fingers cus everything is food. Probably eat better than my a genic.

I had my girl several years. Terrestrial setup, overflow water dish every once in a while.
