Hey all, I’ve been keeping my Ts for a bit of time so far and I want to know what some other Ts I can get. Currently I have an aphonopelma hentzi, tlitocatl albopilosum, and a hapalopus sp colombia large. I’ve rehoused all, and I think I’ve got some fair bit of experience. Any recommendations on other next level ts? Of course I don’t want anything like a pokie or pterinochilus, but I’d like something more arboreal and colorful. I was thinking maybe avicularia, caribena, or maybe even psalmapoeus. Thanks

I keep avicularia and psalmopoeus. Both are great, but psalmopoeus are lightning fast and can be defensive. I would advise you keep some faster terrestrial species before you jump into fast arboreal like psalmopoeus. Still, if you fell like you're ready for them, go for it they're awesome 😃

I think A avicularia are good for getting you started with arboreals. I would say Psalmapoeus are "intermediate" as they're fast with stronger venom. A terrestrial I think would be an L parahybana. They are bigger and mine was a bit more feisty and bolty, but personalities can differ. Personally I like to read about others experience with species, do research then decide. If you know your facts and respect your T then I think you can decide if you are ready :) Happy Halloween!

Fully reccomending Caribena Versicolor.
They will just steal your attention from other tarantulas because of their beauty.
It may not be as "fiesty",but i tend to spend a long time looking at it doing nothing. Once again, very beautiful.
Not difficult to keep, and they spin some incredible web tunnels.

Thanks for all the recommendations everyone! I think I might wait to try psalmapoeus, I forgot about their slightly more potent venom and skittish disposition. For now I guess I’ll try and “level up” so to speak with caribena or avicularia...now the next question is which sp should I get?

Caribena versicolor are worthy to be on anyone's collection. If you get an Avic species, I recommend A. avic M6 (Ex. A. metallica) as they're gorgeous with those metallic hairs and are quite larger than the typical A. avic M1, with most getting at the 5''-6'' in my experience.

My mature male C. versicolor from some time ago:

I made a video of me feeding some of my C. versicolor slings and they're gorgeous as slings and as adults.

Caribena is now definitely on the list, I’d prefer some smaller avics if possible(idk why but I love my dwarf/smaller sp, they don’t get enough love)

You can never go wrong with Neoholothele Incei. A dwarf that can lay webs with the best of them. NW species without urticating hair. Comes in 2 color forms. Easy to keep also.

Can’t go wrong with an Avicularia. Here’s what I have, all available in the classified section with the exception of the Kwitara. There’s also the A. Puru Purple (common name I believe).
  • A. Avicularia
  • A. Kwitara
    A. Minatrix (smallest, ~3”)
  • A. Purpurea
  • C. Versicolor
  • Y. Diversipes
Psalmopoeus are great too. Although they pack a bit more punch, key is to tap the enclosure so They aren’t caught off guard when you go in to do feeding/maintenance; mine always head to the bottom of the enclosure When I go in. The irmania and victori typically will make the base of the bark home base, but also utilize the upper portion and hang out. Hoping to get more of the others psalm’s, but dwarf T’s keep catching my attention.

The most important part of your decision is getting something you feel comfortable with.

I will add another vote for you getting a Caribena versicolor, a Neoholothele incei, or an Avicularia avicularia M6.

the C. versicolor and the M6 always have a place in my collections. They never disappoint. Gorgeous and the ones I’ve had are always visible and have amazing webbing

But I also recently acquired some N. incei at the push of viper and I have to say they are awesome and gorgeous little dwarfs. What I will say is that mine are fast as hell, and have slightly different personalities, two webbed tunnels under leaves and stay hidden 98% of the time, and 1 is out all the time. One is a psycho and is prone to bolt, and the others are fast but not as skittish.

I will also add a new vote for Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens! They are pretty great as a terrestrial that has some good webbing tendencies and mine is always out which is a plus.

there’s also some great Dwarfs I can go into if that’s more your route!
