Haha, yeah I prefer it actually, any NW T with an OW attitude is great by me, its why I bought my P.Cambridgei and P.Irminia. You also said you had to rehouse your H.mac, id say do it kinda like your T.sp. its how I did it for my H.mac .5"/.75" and it went well, actually my P.Cambridgei gave me more problems lol

You should have seen me unpack this H mac sling! Up my arm, down my arm, across the counter, back to my arm... before I blinked. Oops. LOL

This should be fun! Though, I have a tried and true method of dealing with slings that I am hoping won't fail me this time

Haha I know the feeling!! Thats the same thing my C.Marshalli did when I unpacked him/her, out of all the T's it was the only one to do it, go figure.

When I did it I just had a small enclosure of the same size and placed it top to top so when the H.Mac ran to the top all I had to do was slide it over to the new enclosure and wait for him/her to go to the new enclosure. The trick was trying to get it out of the burrow though.

I've switched the caps a few times with slings, but mostly I just use a fish net... Haven't had any problems with that theory yet.

Yet...

I have honestly never tried a fish net, then again I haven't even owned on in years and never though about one for T's. May try it next time, thanks for the tip. :)

No problem :)

I got a good laugh the last time I bought a fish net, because I was also buying a 2g tank for one of my Ts... the check out lady made the mistake of asking me what I was putting in the tank LOL

Nice work Teal. Funny how all that planning for the worst usually ends up being for naught. I guess that's better than the other way around (Rather have a catch-cup and not need it than need one and not have it) Great job on the rehousing and the video both.

Thanks Moltar!

I certainly don't mind looking silly because I over planned, rather than suffering because I under planned!

I've been doing this spider thing for almost 4 years now and they still make me jump sometimes.

If there's one thing I've learned from working with animals all my life - it's that no matter how much you learn, you still are human and therefor can't know it all! So I am always respectful and realize that I can do my best and that it works for the most part - but in reality, that animal is really in control.

Good video Teal.

I would be cautious using a fish net however. Years ago when I was a noob, I had a T drop a leg in a net. I was not using the net to capture the T, but used it in a similar fashion to prevent a fall. Needless to say, it fell into the net, threw a threat display, and dropped a leg. Similar to all the dropping a leg from screen stories you hear. I personally use a piece of plexiglass. This allows you to cover the area above where you are working with the T to prevent climbing escapes like you did with the net. Then you can also use it to cover the transfer cup.

Thanks Smitty.

Are you saying the T's tarsus claws got stuck in the net, so when it went to throw a threat display it ripped off a leg? Just trying to understand exactly what happened here.
When I use a net, I don't let them stand in it and then the top is open... I put the net over then, or, in cases like this... use it to cap the end of a container. If I thought Haught was going to bolt into the net, I would have done it differently because he could have fallen... but this T doesn't really move without being asked to do so.
I can't recall using a net with a T I know to throw threat display, while they were in a pissy mood (I used one with Aidan when he was being nice)... but I will take your words into consideration next time.

Correct the tarsus claw got stuck. I used the net to cover a transfer cup just like you did. The T decided to bolt, and fell into the net which highly irritated it, threw a threat display, began striking, and dropped a leg when it tried to bolt again. If I had used a piece of plexiglass, or a plastic lid like I do now, that never would have happened.

The only reason I say this is because I have noticed a few different people saying that they haven't considered using a net, and that they might now do so. I would highly advise against it. Something happening probably does not have a high probability, but to me it's just not worth the risk.

Thank you for sharing that information! I'd hate for someone's T to get hurt from using a net after seeing me use one.

Do you think it would be a problem with any fabric net, or just the ones with larger holes like that?

I can't honestly answer that, nor am I willing to test it out. I would say any type of mesh type material could potentially pose a risk. Not to mention that fangs can easily penetrate these materials as well.

I'm not using the nets as a precaution against getting bit... if I think there is a greater than 50% change (because there is ALWAYS a chance, when interacting with Ts) then I'll use something else. But, for the most part, I "know" my Ts and I know who is a higher bite risk.
