Phormingochilus sp. Sabah red mature male had a photo shoot recently:

His preferred defense mechanism was to run as fast as possible and jump off the table, then curl up into a ball and bounce across the floor on landing - he's so fuzzy and fluffy, it was kind of like dropping a cotton ball...

He also played dead for quite a while - I think he held this pose for close to 15 minutes before I finally roused him:

At one point he ended up on my boot after running down my leg:

He was certainly a handful, but not really defensive at all. It took more time to dig him out of his burrow than anything. He was the second of my 5 (yes, FIVE) males to mature...

And @ladyratri thinks she has a drama queen, lol. Heā€™s quite a handsome handful.

Bah, this behavior sounds more like my 6 year old than a proper Drama Queen. They should make "Tiny Arachnid Tornado" T-shirts with 8 sleeves lol.
(Yes, my 6yo has a shirt that says "Tiny Human Tornado" on it.)

Drama Queen is *still* hanging from the ceiling lamenting her chonk-ness, waiting for gravity to relieve her of the burden that is her too-small exoskeleton. (Or his. Dunno yet. Drama Queen may yet feature on this thread someday...)

That pic on the boot though is perfect.

Speedy Gee, my N Incei Olive, finally broke cover yesterday after what felt like an eternity in his webbed up leaves. And while small he is brandishing an impressing set of tibial hooks and the emboli thingies. I do have a mature female (Mrs Gee) but I think iā€™d be too much of a beginner to try anything. Anyway I love this little guy and proud of his transformation.

Kuyuri heard tonight was fang inspection day and wanted to make sure I could see that he had been flossing every day.

This guy was tied with Sacha, my genic, for favorite T for well over a year. Since maturing, he has become crankier than Wei (P irminia) and as cranky as Sihamba (H pulchripes). He threat poses anything that moves in his space.

Thank you for your input! Please enlighten me as I am still new to the hobby. Thanks!
This thread is to post pictures of male tarantulas that have had their ultimate molt and are ready to mate. When this happens, they will have modified pedipalps - the ends will be stubby and look sort of like boxing gloves, and they'll have bulbs/emboli on the underside. Like this:

Many, but not all, mature males will also develop tibial apophysis (hooks) on leg I (the longest front leg) which they use to secure the female during copulation:

When a male T matures, they will usually get much "hairier" and their legs will be much longer in relation to their body:

So, while your T. stirmi might be a male, and a large one at that, he's not yet mature since he's not undergone that ultimate molt and developed his reproductive organs. Still happy to see him and be sure to post back here once he does mature!

Much appreciated! This was extremely helpful. I feel like I now can determine in the future. Will these organs be immediately visible after that ā€œultimate moltā€? Or develop over time after? Thank you!

Immediately. It may be hard to see them in the hours following the molt, but as it hardens up and stretches out, you'll be able to identify them easily. Also, Theraphosa stirmi is one of those that do not develop the tibial apophysis (hooks), so you'll need to focus on looking for modified pedipalps.
