If you don't care about what we're saying, then you shouldn't come at us with hostility. As previously stated, we were genuinely concerned for the well being of a creature we care about. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being worried and trying to inform someone of the risks they're taking on a forum literally dedicated to helping other tarantula owners with their pets. Even if you continue to handle, and you were to tell us you will continue to handle, it's extremely easy to just say "While I respect your opinions and appreciate your concern, I will be continuing to handle. I was asking about what the sex was, not asking for opinions on handling." And then just not respond to any further comments on it. You got your answer on what sex we think it is, so you don't have to feel obligated to respond to our other statements regarding handling. While you're entitled to express your opinion the way you did and we're entitled to express our concern the way we did, I just think it would be less time consuming and get responded to with less criticism if you were to have opted for a less hostile and arrogant approach.

All that being said, I'm being a bit of a hypocrite for spending all this time to write out this long response. I just felt it was something I should point out. But I'm gonna take my own advice now and just leave it at that, and not respond to any further remarks. We all seem to be in agreement that it looks male, so that's the answer to the original question.

You do realize that you can't just call yourself a "professional handler" because you think your good at it. That's not the way it works...

As previously stated many NW species will tolerate handling to some extent but this no big secret. They are operating purely on instinct, if you were to simply breath in one's direction whilst handling it could trigger a fight or flight response.

It's a risky practice, get bit and you may end up flinging your spider by reflex. You risk your animals safety for a selfish activity that is both non-beneficial and unnecessary.

This is beyond reason, Professional handler? What are you thinking? Theraphosids cannot be tamed like reptiles no matter how early you start handling.

Some specimens will tolerate it but they could change dispositions and turn defensive like the flip of a switch. Don't spew misinformation around, someone might bet bit because of it.
Haha - he'll find out the hard way mark my words "professional handler" how old are you @SpiderMom89 - you look like your 16 at the most and you're a professional handler, I've never heard such bull in all my life, at the end of the day I know exactly what's going to happen as can 99.99999% of the other members on this forum, you're gonna get tagged and tagged bad cause your underestimating the bipolar sp. that will turn on you in a flash, if you get tagged it's your own fault, don't say you haven't been warned, and don't go crying to mummy when it happens.

Thats how well people know me and Tarantulas so before yawl go and be worried warts maybe take inconsideration I'm a professional handler and they don't see me as a threat the trick is you handle them at a young age I don't care if handling is frowned upon more people handle Tarantulas then people think :p
Learn to write properly, and that's just for starters, your grammar is appalling - you talk as though you've owned hundreds of species over several decades to get the "professional handler" title - LOL, you look about 16, for heavens sake, you're gonna get tagged my boy that's a dead cert. (I don't think this is mom, I think this is the son of said mom) you're risking the life of your spider - "Disgusted member"

Erm... clicking on the avatar of @SpiderMom89 taught me he is actually a she (hence the 'mom' in spidermom89 ;)) and she is 27 years old. She could go for a 16-year old boy, but her face is only partially visible on her avatar and most of what is visible is covered by a spider. I think it is safe to assume that she is in fact a 27-year old female member of this board :)

I agree, but also realise that not every person on this board had access to the same level of education. We cannot rule out that @SpiderMom89's writing style is due to lack of education - and not out of sloppiness. I don't like 'grammar-nazis', especially considering that a large portion of this board's members are not native English speakers. But I agree with @mconnachan that - if possible - posts should be in proper English. That's why I can't really stand the use of 'yawl' (instead of you all, I presume?). Do you try to sound 'gangsta' to give more weight to your statements?

Can someone who has that rating throw in a facepalm for me...
Putting a spider known for more severe urticating hairs on your face, near your eyes and then claim to be a professional handler. What is that by the way? Did you receive a certificate for it or something?
I bet you tell others it is okay to put their spiders on their heads as well...:shifty:

Ya'll is southern slang for "you all," not gangster at all. ;)

OP: the spider is male.

P.S. Professional - (of a person) engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation rather than as a pastime. ;)

Yes it is, its both. Living close to DC, you'll hear it both ways.

That said, I read Spidermom's posts in my head with the voice of Sandy Cheeks from SpongeBob SquarePants.

yawl
yôl/
noun
  1. a two-masted fore-and-aft-rigged sailboat with the mizzenmast stepped far aft so that the mizzen boom overhangs the stern.
    • historical
a ship's jolly boat with four or six oars.

To be fair, I knew what she meant was the conjunction of you all (ya'll) but all I could think of was this. Either way, it's obvious she is talking out of her uhm...stern, to continue with the ship-anatomy theme.

So you get paid to handle your t's, how did you manage to get that cushy job, Any and all of us can hold pinch style - it's one of the first ways to learn how to pick up a tarantula safely-if needed. You have a way with animals? So you must be Dr. Dolittle, so you can talk to the animals as well! Amazing. I've never handled any of my tarantulas and wouldn't want to for the simple fact they get nothing, zip, nada from it, apart from death by a ruptured abdomen if dropped or hurled across a room when it takes exception to being handled, in one severe case of dehydration I pinch held one of my T's into an ICU - that's the only time a tarantula should be handled.
